OMG! It's the shortest book in the trilogy but so many things happened in this one! Even more than the first two combined! I loved it!
The book takes place about one hour after Dreamless ends, which was nice since I read it right after I finished Dreamless.
Okay, I'm going to be all over the place here.
It seems that when Lucas, Orion, and Helen shared blood, Helen acquired a power from both Lucas and Orion. Helen could now create an earthquake, read people's hearts, control people's hearts, and she's also a Falsefinder.
I love that we know Orion's story more. We get to know who his family is and what happened to him. I love the part when he and Helen go on a "date" at the beach. It was going so well until Helen thought of Lucas. I'm still Team Orion. Lucas was alright. I'm still not his biggest fan.
We get introduced to a new character, Andy. Andy was almost raped and killed by Apollo. Helen goes to save Andy, who we find out is a Siren. They don't go too in detail about what a Siren is capable of. Helen takes Andy back to the Delos compound but Andy gets all freaked out by Hector because Hector is the exact replica of Apollo. Since Helen could read hearts, she sees that Hector has feelings for Andy. I thought it was weird at first because it was more insta-love than how Lucas and Helen fell in love. I let it go, because I love Hector. Andy tells Hector to stay away from her. But Andy almost gets attacked by Apollo again a bit later in the story and Hector rescues her. Then they both share mutual feelings. It was cute. Weird, but cute.
Cassandra has feelings for Orion. Helen could also read people's hearts like Orion and she saw what Cassandra felt for Orion. To be honest, it was already made obvious that Cassandra liked him. When he started calling her Kitty. Cassandra always staying close to Hector. At first it was probably just so the Fates won't bother her, but I think she liked him even more because of that. It was so cute. I never fully shipped Orion and Helen because I knew Lucas was the endgame but I totally ship him and Cassandra. They are so adorable. I want a spin off with them in it.
I noticed that we get less Clair and Jason in this book. They're cute but not much happened in this one regarding their relationship, which kind of upset me but all the new couples made up for it.
Helen gets these dreams, memories, that kind of shows her the past. The dreams show her what happened with Helen of Troy. She even got dreams of animals killing women. They were all dreams Morpheus sent her to warn her of what was going to happen and how it may all end. In a way, what was happening in the present time were all repetition of what happened in the past. History was repeating itself. Then Helen eventually goes to Morpheus and asks him what to do.
When Morpheus was trying to tell Helen that those close to her were planning to betray her, how the hell does she even come to Daphne as a conclusion? They weren't even close!! And when he tells her that she's in danger, she leaves! It's just like Zach over again! When someone wants to warn you of danger heading your way, and they're about to tell you what will cause that danger, YOU FUCKING LISTEN!!! Ugh! That's the thing about Helen that pisses me off, she jumps to conclusions so easily!! So then maybe there could've been a way to prevent Matt from being killed had Helen listened to Morpheus.
Helen then finds out from Hades that she's a Worldbuilder. She basically has her own world and she controls it. She can have whatever she wants and prevent anything from happening. Literally, like she creates a portal that takes her to her own world. She calls it Everyworld because she built every city she wanted to go to in one world. This world is what was once known as Atlantis, which is a world that the house of Thebes have been fighting every house for only to discover that it doesn't exist anymore. Everyworld. To be honest, I think it's a silly name, but whatever.
Matt basically replaces Automedon. It isn't quite clear to me how he acquired the position but Matt becomes in charge of all Myrmidons. So that happens. But what surprised me even more was that Deadalus, Tantalus, AND Pallas are on his side! PALLAS!! WTF!! I didn't see that coming. And when the Scions started choosing sides, Ariadne and Claire chose Matt! WHAT!!!! It was going crazy!
Hector dies and OMG! I didn't see it coming! I got so pissed off because I continued on with this series because I thought it was going to be happy and there it goes, killing off my favorite character, just like Allegiant. WTF IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD!!! Matt dies after Hector, which didn't sadden me much. I don't think I really cared for him but I do love Ariadne and I hate that her 'soulmate,' for the lack of a better word, dies. Everyone had someone but her now. Hector and Andy, Orion and Cassandra, Jason and Claire, and Lucas and Helen.
Daphne finally tells Helen that Jerry is her real dad. No surprise there! I always knew that Jerry is her real dad.
Here's the big twist: Lucas trades himself off with Hades in order to bring Hector back to life. So we get Hector back but Lucas is now in charge of the Underworld. He doesn't even know that he and Helen aren't cousins yet. He did it because he thought he and Helen couldn't be together. Typical stupid move of a dude in love in a YA series. Then Helen goes over there and tells him that they aren't cousins. She then convinces the Eumenides to free Lucas, but instead make a deal there will come a time, someday, that Lucas will have to rule the Underworld. But for now, Hades is the man.
Daphne dies but after succeeding in killing Tantalus. Helen is now immortal. She challenges Zeus and traps him in Everyland. Although I found Helen annoying when she was with Morpheus, when she beat Zeus, HELEN IS BOSS! Omg! I wasn't expecting that to happen. I thought she would send him to Tartarus. It was so badass of her. You go girl! Then she threatens the other gods and of course they became afraid of her. The gods forfeit and Scions win! Whoopie!
My favorite character in this one is Hades. Hades shows his compassionate side. I actually think he's the nicest out of all three major Gods. I think the Disney movie really made him look bad but he isn't. After reading the Percy Jackson series, he grew on me and this book really made him seem like the good guy. I really want to read more books that have Hades as the good guy.
I don't like the part in the end where it says Ariadne is pulling away from the family because of her loss. What's worse is that her cousin killed Matt but for good reasons. So whatever.
I do love that Orion and Cassandra stay together. They're adorable. But it did raise a question. If Cassandra is the Oracle, but Orion keeps her safe from the Fates, is she still the Oracle? Does she grow up? Or does she stay fourteen forever like how it's supposed to be?
I guess for now, I'll just have to assume that only good things happened from then on.
In conclusion, history ALMOST repeats itself.
I really liked this book and this whole series. I really enjoyed the writing and the pacing. I'll definitely read more of Josephine Angelini's novels in the future. I can't wait for her next book, Crucible! :)
