Creative Future Digital Innovator
Each session is a set of new courses on different subjects that are taken. Well they fall under the same degree of Multimedia but each class is different and has its unique information. Sort of like us, we all have a unique being. Hello, my name is Xiomara Torres and I am unique student taking up Multimedia Design and Management at DeVry University. So far it has been a worthwhile journey to earn my Bachelor’s degree in this field. This session I am taking up Cultural Diversity and Emerging Multimedia two totally different classes but you would be surprise how related they can be and how they both can impact each other . Of course, how both of them can be joined and applied to my goal- to become a designer of the future. Therefore, as you would imagine, Emerging Multimedia Technology or MDD410 was on point to contribute to this goal and at the end it turned out to be fantastic. Below I will be discussing this great experience.
When I first started to take MDD410 I figured it would be another multimedia class that would consist of learning about multimedia design and then writing papers about it. I expected to learn more about the field that I didn’t know in regards to how to design more. Then I took a good look at the name and I read it “Emerging Multimedia Technology”. Then so my expectation shifted, I then knew that it consisted of upcoming variety of Multimedia Technology that is becoming available. It wasn’t until the first week, that I expected to learn about so many different technologies that I had no idea were out there.
In just the first week, I learned so much that the impact was mind-blowing. The first thing that I learned that caught my attention was data. I was aware of the revolution of television to computer including the internet and then phones that later picked up Wi-Fi. But I had not thought of it of the evolution of data instead, which is basically what it is. The fact that all these technologies were developed and changed throughout time is because of the desire access of data more efficiently. That includes question like what it is, how to access it, and when to access it. This wasn’t only an importance to understand the past but also to understand and be prepared for the futures and what is to come. So with that said, in term of technology, data now in my point of view is seen different.
Technology and data are all over; actually it is part of our daily life. People can’t get enough of it. Matter of fact, it is all over in all form bringing interaction to the second important lesson. This desire and great experience of interacting with so much technology lead to the creation of great devices and a life connected virtually. Now, that leads to the first technology that left me speechless- Augmented Reality. I had no idea this even existed. I learn that it was actually out for a good time now but yet I was very unaware. I learned that through a combination of devices, sensors, and applications you can have more of the virtual experience in the real world. You can virtually be anywhere in a world and feel like you are really there! As if that wasn’t enough, I also became aware of wearable computers. Then to continue I had the pleasure to gain knowledge about hardware and the foundation of how electronics products are manufactured. It interesting because the same following week that I learned about 3D printers and actually experimenting to design for 3D Modeling I attended the Orlando iX in which I was actually able to see a 3D printer in person. Along that I experience Virtual and Augmented reality. I was astonished! The fact that we are straying away from paper printers to actual object printer is a big changer since I imagined myself designing for print.
There are many key takeaways that I will retain form this course that will help me as I move forward. Those are things like the importance of data, the benefits of gaming, the merging of games and the real world in many different areas like education as an example, and the use of algorithms in social media. This life has become very technological and technology has become our life. We depend on it so constantly and just being able to understand where it is heading in regards to accessing data the most effective way is a big eye opener for me. In one of my previous post I spoke about an ATAP Project being launched by Google in which they are fusing fashion with technology by the use of making any part of your clothing as a screen that you can navigate your phone with. That alone is huge and mind blowing to me because when you think of design in the past it wasn’t imagine. Being able to understand all these key point is important for me to reach my goal of designing for the future because all these emerging technology are the beginning of a future Xplosive that will require a different design approach. More than just paper pen, pencils, and colors!
To conclude, this learning experience with this session course MDD 410 not only was informative, fun, interactive, and interesting every step by the way it was also a realistic goal adjuster. In other, words it shifted my mindset to the changes and adjustment needed to understand that I will not only be a simple designer but a future innovative designer. With the result of this hand full of information, I am definitely looking forward into the future of this journey.
