I worked 4th of July in Vegas...
So it was a pretty decent 4th of July because I knew everything will happen after the fireworks and I worked mid-shift/2nd shift. We were overbooked in day shift because our damn director decided it was okay to book elective cases so we had our dayshift staff that volunteered to work the holiday & then our 1st call and 3rd call staff. I was 2nd call & they asked me if it was okay to skip me because the 3rd call nurse is willing to come in because her surgeon booked an elective spine case and of course I said yes, use me as back-up or else I would be doing a 16 hour shift 0630 AM to 11 PM. oh hell no lol. So when I came in for my shift, there were only 4 cases left over & I found out there’s no charge nurse so I automatically became charge nurse for the holiday...OH FML.
Well lucky for me, we finished our cases and by 9 pm we decided to watch the fireworks in the rooftop of our hospital. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
Then, in perfect timing, by almost 10 PM...our trauma pagers went off...
