DREKKA's BEST OF 2015 For the month of January, we will be posting some of our favourite releases of 2015, in chronological order... MAY 2015 BILÍN WAKE - "Wake Country" (Orphanology) Mark Trecka of Pillars & Tongues/Static Films/Dark Dark Dark, along with Evan Hydzik (also of Pillars & Tongues/Static Films... abstract deconstructions and ambient soundscapes... a highlight of 2015 was playing a collaborative set w/ Drekka+Bilín Wake in Chicago... a show which became more like a ritual
If you haven't read this book, add it to your list...then move it to the top. It's absolutely one of the best books I've ever read. I read this book for the first time over 5 years ago and I'm still gleaning great truth from it today. It may have started as required reading, but I can't tell you how much this book has impacted my worldview and my understanding of the gospel. READ IT. #Orphanology #tonymerida #rickmorton #adoption #orphancare #nationaladoptionmonth #gospel #theheartofthegospel

Orphanology Interview (by New Hope Publishers)
What an awesome book! I've had the pleasure of working through Orphanology over these past few weeks, and while reading this book, God has been breaking my heart for this type of ministry. He's always broken my heart for social issues (hence my interest in social work), but now it seems that he is leading me to prayerfully consider adoption and/or fostering later in life. Later in life. My heart is breaking, but all I can do now seems to be to wait.
But God broke through that lie this week. In a chapter about providing transitional assistance, there was a short section about social workers. Studying social work was a hard decision for me as it does not promise a very secure or financially stable life. But God used this book to show me the immense need for social workers:
Sadly, it seems that US churches and denominations have become increasingly disconnected from the practice of social work... Let me be clear. We need Christian social workers! We need Christians who are trained to mobilize us as to how to use our resources to ease the suffering of the masses of orphans, widows, and homeless people who are all around us.
"We need Christian social workers!" It was like a lightening bolt erupted behind me. God speaks through many ways, but I don't recall Him speaking so clearly through something other than the Bible to me before.
God also used another passage to calm my racing heart. In the social work program at U of I, it seems like every week I have the overwhelming feeling that the problems social workers address are too great and I am too small. But the book countered my thoughts with this:
We have no blueprint from which to build a solution to this problem, but we have to remember, we have something better. We have a guide for our action that is much greater than mere expertise or experience, the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit. It seemed like God was saying to me, "Yes, Rachel, you're right: you are too small. But I AM. I am greater. FOLLOW ME."
OUT NOW: FRANS DE WAARD - One Day I Got A Four Track Tape And Decided To Do My Own Mix (ORPHAN00W)

ORPHAN00W in the 'alphabet series': • CDR = ltd to 23 copies • DIGITAL = unlimited _
from the press release: In VITAL WEEKLY #847 (www.vitalweekly.net), Frans de Waard wrote a review of a cassette entitled 'ENANTIOBIOSIS 1' on Bob Heaven's Tapes.
"And then finally a cassette that idea-wise is right up my alley: four bands have provided a piece of music that is copied to this tape so that the adventurous musician can stick it into his four track machine and do his own mix. So we have one channel on side A for Drekka, the other channel for Lather, and we reverse the tape and have Charnel House on the left channel and Kyle Willey on the right channel (estimated. I couldn't decipher the cover properly). Not exactly something you stick on and listen, but rather something you can freely play around with. Long form drone like sounds with crude lo-fi sampling. Maybe a bit rough? Who cares? Where can we send our mixes, I wondered? (oh, and here's a tip for those who don't have a four track machine: record the entire cassette to your computer. Make two files, one per side of the cassette. Put 'side B' in reverse mode, and import both into your favorite multi track program and start mixing)"
The next day, I cheekily sent him a message telling where to send his mix.
A few days later, he did!
