Hey! I've seen you mention Soviet animation adaptation of The Jungle Book, I'm not sure if you knew, but the changing of Bagheera’s gender wasn't an intentional decision but a translation mistake from the book, which happened due to the translators’ tendency to disregard the gender of characters in children's books at that time and because of the problem with grammatical gender of words. However, although Bagheera’s gender was changed, her/his characterization remained the same.

That’s really neat!  And yeah, Bagheera was still 100% Bagheera.  (Really love the way they played with the animation. Having her be this amorphous, moving blob of blackness that was roughly leopard shaped at times just screamed “CAT!”)  She was flippant and playful, but also swung her moods to ferocious and vengeful on a dime.  I honestly think everyone should watch this version at least once, because the old animation is really fun (you can tell animation was still in it’s toddlerhood at that point, and the artists were having fun and playing with it) and the characterizations are spot on.
