I will always adore the Oscar attends Beacon AU so much.

Oscar hands down would be Ozpin’s favourite student. He wouldn’t even try to hide the fact, it would be blatant favouritism.

Inviting Oscar to his office, drinking hot cocoa with him, reading and discussing fairytales with him.

He’d always thought his focus would be on team RWBY and JNPR but it’s Oscar who he ends up guiding and mentoring, the one he cares about most.

The one he wants to protect….

He can’t explain it, but Ozpin feels a connection to him like no other.

When he dies, he thinks of the young 14 year old boy with green golden eyes who he cares about more than anything, Oscar’s name being the last name to leave his lips.

When he wakes up in Oscar’s mind and discovers he’s the next one, the next wizard. His heart sinks in dread but is selfishly elated in joy.

Because despite everything Oscar is still with him. And will become the successor to everything Ozpin wanted to give him, his magic, his skills.

Ozpin & Oscar’s connection

I’ve always had this desire to talk about this topic for a while now but I never had the motivation or the proper thought process to get started but I’ve decided to try and make my love on this topic known and hoping I make sense while doing so.

Something I’ve always love seeing from Ozpin is the genuine amount of care he has towards Oscar, towards people in general but that’s a topic for a separate post. I wanna talk about Oz and his relationship with Oscar specifically.

Now I know there are many that don’t share my love of Dadpin, and that’s perfectly understandable.

But something that I will say that none of us can deny is that Ozpin does care for Oscar. He doesn’t and has never seen Oscar as some meat suit he can hijack whenever he wants, he knows that Oscar is just a kid, and he gets that this isn’t going to be an easy thing for him to adjust too.

From the get go Ozpin has always been incredibly understanding when it came to their shared connection and merging of their souls and of Oscar as a whole. And one of my many favorite instances of Ozpin showing that he understands that is the amount of times he tells Oscar he’s sorry.

Oz isn’t saying he’s sorry in a off handed casual way like “I’m sorry, please forgive me.” No, he’s genuinely sorry he’s putting Oscar through such hell. He doesn’t want Oscar to have to go through this, because he’s a child. Just like he himself also didn’t want to go through it either but neither of them had a choice. And he understands that and has stated as such.

Because he does, he does understand exactly what Oscar is going through, this isn’t something neither he nor Oscar nor the rest of the other collective of Oz’s wanted, including Ozma. He, Ozpin, himself has lived through this hell too, felt the exhaustion and fear this curse can cause so he knows and gets Oscar whenever the kid voices his fear and he offers him understanding and reassurance.

Because Ozpin, at his center is a nurturer, even without Ozma or the other collections of Oz’s, he loves humanity and wants to protect them. He has a soft spot for children and even if some don’t see him in a fatherly light towards anyone, the evidence is there in how he treats Oscar.

Whenever he speaks to Oscar it’s always in a soft tone, the only time he ever raises/raised his voice to Oscar is when he was in a state of panic when Oscar was fighting Hazel in Volume 5, and that’s not me overanalyzing something for my own Dadpin needs, you can hear the fear in Ozpin’s voice as it grows more panicked. But other then that Oz has always used a tone of voice that was soft and calm.

And whenever Oscar was at his most vulnerable Ozpin is there to steady Oscar and reassure him with a gentle voice that while things looked bleak, they were going to be okay.

I’ve seen plenty of people say that Oscar to Ozpin is merely just a meat suit and the best evidence against this is this

When Oscar is being visibly open with Ozpin, when this young fifteen year old expresses his genuine fear of not wanting their souls to merge, Oz gently and reassuringly says that he doesn’t want that either. And a man that genuinely doesn’t care about someone’s well being wouldn’t be bothered by this.

But Ozpin is.

Because he doesn’t, he doesn’t want that for Oscar, he doesn’t want any of the suffering that comes with being Ozma’s descendent to happen to Oscar. But he also heartbreakingly knows that none of them have a choice.

No matter what you chose to see their relationship as. Dadpin or no, none of us can deny that Oz does indeed care about Oscar. And it makes me that much more giddy to know that Oscar is finally realizing that too.
