I rediscovered this comic that I drew a few days after I broke my drawing hand last year (we didn’t know it was broken until the following week. Before that the doctors thought I tore a ligament and would need surgery, but it turned out to be a hairline fracture). Anyway, you can tell because it’s sloppy as hell. But I like it so here ya go!
What hereditary condition do you have? :(
Me and my mom have a bone condition called Osteogensis Imperfecta or in English: Brittle Bone Disease. The best way for me to describe it is that my bones are that of a body way older than I am (like Osteoporosis but I was born with it). My bones lack density. They are fragile but it’s more than bone deep. My eyes are super sensitive to light and have blue eye-whites. I bruise easier than a peach and I have some hyper extension in my joints.
And before I hear “just drink milk!” I’d like to clarify that my body doesn’t absorb calcium like everybody else.
Awesome article about living with disability and the struggle with self image.
While ours is not visible, I still found this piece relatable! http://hellogiggles.com/growing-up-physical-disability
This photo is Atticus Shaffer from the tv show, The Middle. Atticus was born with osteogenisis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). I myself has been born with the same brittle bone disease. When I was younger I broke my femurs (leg) so much we lost count but have a huge medical record to remind me of what happen at a certain age. To explain how easy for someone to break with this brittle bone disease(oi)..it was Halloween, so my family went to a haunted barn and back then I used a walker so I could walk better, I remember going threw this dark hallway and I stop cause I was scared, my mom said "go crystal" so I did and when i did..Freddy Cruger jumped out and scared me. My mom said again, "go" I said, "I can't my leg broke". So what happen was by me jerking from being scared broke my femur. That how easy you can get a fracture. It was very hard growing up and having multiple surgeries and having to be in body cast for a long time to heal from a fracture of your femur. The reason I'm writing about him it just goes to show you, no matter what your life struggles are you can be someone who may inspire someone. Please Keep that in mind. By the way Freddy Cruger felt horrible..lol
Best feel good video ever, I swear it makes you so happy.
