Itās occupational therapy month!
End of OT Month
This was posted today on USC Chanās social media and honestly, reading this post and seeing the clinicians that represent the professions of physical therapy and occupational therapy made me really emotional.Ā Just the way that Dr. John Margetis worded this short, but impactful statement really hit me hard and made me realize even more why I love occupational therapy.Ā
āWith everyone entering the room toĀ ādo somethingā to our patients, occupational therapy sessions focus more on giving our patients some control over their time and bringing a human touch to the cold, sterile environment of the intensive care units.āĀ
I am so proud to be part of a profession that lets people feel involved in their treatment and that reminds them that they are the source of healing; we are mainly here to facilitate and collaborate with them. During this tremendously uncertain and scary time, Iām grateful that there are therapists out there on the front-lines, providing care to those affected by COVID-19, but also adding thatĀ āhuman touchā so that they can have a sense of hope and a sense of warmth as theyāre going through this dark journey.Ā Thank you to USC Chan for sharing this empowering statement. Thank you to everyone on the front-lines, for serving the community and giving back every ounce of effort that they can. Thank you everyone who is staying home and really enforcing the stay-at-home guidelines. Stay safe and be well!
Happy Occupational Therapy Month ā¤ļøāæļø
I know this blog has been all doom and gloom lately. Not gonna lie, been in a weird funk⦠and this is really the only place where I feel free and safe to let it all out. Itās just me venting. āļø
But I want you to know that my positive, grateful self is very much in tact. ā¤ļøš Itās hard not to be when everyday, I get the privilege of helping my patients get their lives back on track. I was born for this job. I just love my patients. š Thereās my super cute 90 year-old Filipino patient who calls me āPrincess Dianaā and thanks me everyday for āsavingā his life. š¤·š½āāļø I call him āTatayā which means father in Tagalog. ā¤ļø And thereās my patient with stage IV lung cancer. Iām just so proud of her. Sheās facing the biggest battle of her life and often in so much pain, and yet, sheās so motivated and positive and even manages to joke around with me. We celebrate her little victories everyday: getting out of bed, standing for five minutes, transferring from the bed to the chair, walking to the bathroom, etc. As a thank you, she gave me her retiree 50% off discount code to a popular clothing company she worked for. Just for fun, I tried it, and it actually worked! As tempting as it is to use it, I wonāt! haha
In celebration of OT month, I just wanted to share this viral story that I just absolutely love. ā¤ļø This is why I do what I do. This is my purpose. As an OT, Iām helping my patients do things that we, able-bodied people, often take for granted. This man just wanted to walk his bride down the aisle. š My patient just wanted to walk to the bathroom as she had not done so for several weeks. She was able to do it today which was a big win for her. I get to help make my patientsā lives easier and happier, and thatās the biggest blessing about getting to do what I do. Iām so grateful to God for paving the way for me to get into this profession. For my personality, itās such a wonderful fit. Thank you, thank you, thank you, God. What a gift. ā¤ļøš

October is OT month in Canada. My friend asked me to be a part of her (and a small group of OT entrepreneurs) new OT month campaign. Check it out!! Lots of amazing OTs featured, all across Canada, and more to come all month long!
Entry 67 {#occupied #OTPhoto} My primary role is mama and I spend much of my time experiencing life with my son. Sorry (not sorry) most of my challenge pics will be of my kid! Like I said, current primary role!
