#18 - “I Missed You” for Shepard/Liara (using my canon Shep–Evangeline “Evan” Shepard: Earthborn, sole survivor, renegade)
“She’s with us, Lieutenant.”
Shepard pushed the barrel of Vega’s rifle towards the floor. The marine’s gaze snapped over to her, lips twisting into a frustrated snarl, but his weapon stayed put. Next to him, Ashley rolled her eyes and let out a tired sigh.
Shepard ignored them both. Liara was here. Right here. Standing in front of her looking as perfect and breathtaking as ever. It only took two long strides to close the distance between them. Liara was ready, having already holstered her pistol and hastily pulled off her gloves.
Their lips crashed together. Shepard had meant to be gentle, at least at first, but she couldn’t help herself. Not after it had been this long. Her arms wrapped around the asari’s waist and pulled her as close as possible, ignoring the uncomfortable angles of their armor. She drank Liara in greedily, almost desperately, nearly drowning in her scent and the sweetness of her mouth. Liara’s arms were around her neck, clutching at thick fistfuls of hair, the blunts of her nails digging into Shepard’s scalp. Already the familiar, welcome buzzing was building at the base of her skull, and Shepard wondered if they could meld right then and there.
Somewhere in the back of her mind Shepard was aware of the inappropriateness of such a public display, but she honestly didn’t care. She had long ago stopped giving a fuck what people thought of her or her relationship with Liara. Especially now, when she needed her more than ever.
“God, I missed you,” Shepard said when they finally broke apart.
Liara’s eyes twinkled mischievously, and her smile was so dazzling it made Shepard’s heart ache. “Don’t go to jail, then,” she said, trailing a finger over Shepard’s ear and across the scars on her cheek. Her face fell slightly as she continued to speak. “I am sorry I did not come see you. I–”
“It’s okay,” Shepard said quickly. “We can talk about it later. You’re here now, and that’s all that matters.” Her arms tightened around Liara’s waist. “Right?”
“Yes, I am here.” Liara brushed her fingers across Shepard’s lips. “And I am not going anywhere.”
Shepard kissed the pads of her fingertips and her face broke out into a huge, lopsided grin. Over her shoulder she heard Ashley clear her throat. Loudly.
Shepard pulled away, but didn’t take her eyes off Liara. “Right. Let’s get going.”
Vega ambled up beside them, still clutching at his rifle. He looked at Shepard, then Liara, then back to Shepard again.
“So you two know each other, or…?”
