alright y'all, buckle the fuck in. Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe is a novel by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, about two Mexican American boys, who (spoiler) eventually fall in love. I have never read a book that treats its characters with such tenderness and respect, and gives them time to morph, and change, and develop. The author makes them seem so real, so relatable, not forced or fake. And before there's a relationship, there's an amazing, funny, wonderful friendship, between two boys who want nothing more than to have the world figured out. The writing is beyond gorgeous, and there are so many things that made me laugh, then cry, then cry some more. It's darkly funny at some points, and heart wrenchingly sad at others. And the whole time, I was cheering for both Ari and Dante as they struggled to find who they were, and figure out their places in the world. Please, guys. Read this. And, if you do, send me a message on what you think!!

Ren Faire

So, I went to a ren faire today (27th) with some friends. I got an absolutely amazing hat, saw a really neat scale mail tail (rhymes!), and participated in both the knife throwing, and axe throwing contests. Got second place in both. I also did some archery, and hit 13/14 shots on the target with 2 in the bullseye area. I'm going again Sunday, and I'm gonna try to win the contests this time. I'll probably post a picture of my hat sometime soon.
