Delft, tussen Den Haag en Rotterdam op de helft, is een prachtige plaats. De naam komt van de twee belangrijkste grachten, de Oude en Nieuwe Delft. Een delf is een andere benaming voor een smalle gracht. Tussen de Oude en Nieuwe delf, die al in de 12e eeuw gegraven zijn, staan veel koopmanshuizen uit de Gouden Eeuw. Het land tussen de twee grachten werd in die periode opgehoogd en daardoor ontstond een zeer statig en gewilde strook in de stad. De grandeur van deze panden straalt nog steeds uit, zelf in de weerkaatsing van het water op een grauwe, koude dag. —————- Between the cities Den Haag and Rotterdam the beautiful town of Delft can be found.
