thinking about ciel’s extremely conflicting and hypocritical sense of self worth mhm. he takes immense pride in his skills and competence but at the end of the day he needs to live as someone more well-liked in order to believe in himself and find the strength to go on HMM. and he’s so selfish (his words not mine) because he’s doing all this for himself and wouldn’t give his life for someone else’s even though he truly believes his own life to be valued at like. a handful of dusty pennies. if someone like him does something for himself, anything at all, it must mean he’s terribly self-important, right? all the while his drive to reclaim his dignity is freakishly strong and is probably the only thing that tethered him to sanity long enough to take sebastian’s deal in the first place so maybe he does have an ego! maybe he is built different and maybe he just is that bitch! are we considering this
