i finally finished the ouroboros cycle and am also busy finishing mister refs but i did a little doodle of Avatar of Death bc i love her, your honor, ft okultra
rereading the ouroboros cycle because i swear everytime i read it i retain absolutely none of the information. what is this. why do i remember basically nothing of the story i’ve read like five times now
A quick update for you all. As you may have noticed, there has been a delay on the release of the next Ouroboros Cycle book. There are a number of factors that have played into this, but the main reason is that early last year, my agent sold four of my books (one stand alone, The Secret Life of Kitty Granger being released on March 2, 2021; and one trilogy). In addition, I previously wrote a fifth book for my agent, which we haven't yet found a home for. Obviously, selling four books is great news, and I am extremely grateful to my agent for her amazing work. I hope you guys will enjoy those books as much as I enjoyed writing them. But what that means is that for the past couple of years, most of my attention had to be focused on researching, plotting, writing, and editing those books.
All of this came on the heels of the decision to put the originally planned next Ouroboros Cycle book (a Freddie centric WWI story) on hold in favor of the current Book Six, A Wilderness of Tigers (an appropriately Varanus centric tale set in the 20s). Given that the Ouroboros Cycle is ultimately Varanus's story, I feel that this was absolutely the best decision to make, but it meant that the timeline for research, writing, and editing had to be pushed back. Fortunately, the series' publisher has a much more flexible production schedule than most publishers and they have been willing to work with me on juggling the various parts of my writing schedule.
What this means is that Book Six of the Ouroboros Cycle will be ready for release in 2001. You guys are the first people to hear about this and obviously the public announcement will come closer to the book's actual release date. (In addition, there will be a Freddie focused 1920s book, The Heirs of Moctezuma, released some time after Book Six as well, so keep your eyes open for that).
I am sorry for the lack of books but this is why. But more books are coming very soon. I do have a new short story out in the Short Things anthology: APOLLYON, by G. D. Falksen

One of the short stories I want to write for my Patreon patrons is an Ouroboros Cycle short depicting Basileios and his followers.
Set in the 1920s, this is a dinner scene where Basileios and his followers are meeting in Paris for a sumptuous dinner. Some of the followers are his original students from before the exile. Others are Shashavani who have been sent into exile or abandoned the order, and were recruited by Basileios later on. The division between the original students and these new converts is very clear, and it clouds their interactions, although everyone must be polite and keep protocol lest they anger their master. The star of the evening is, of course, Edith the Saxon, Basileios's favorite, who has recently opened an art gallery to showcase modern, postwar art. She is especially interested in showcasing the works of former soldiers, in particular those suffering from shell shock and other psychological trauma. Basileios is very supportive, but some of the other followers resent Edith's privileged position. Jane Fairfax is present as well, quietly chafing under the yoke of her new servitude. The Basilisks do not share the Shasahvani's respect for those still living in the shadow of death, and it is becoming clear to Fairfax that Basileios's followers regard her as a servant rather than an equal. This position does not suit her, and she intends to change it as soon as the time is right. Meanwhile, the other Basilisks scheme in the shadows. They dare not offend Basileios with their plots, but they are more than happy to conspire against one another. In the end, all that matters is their master's favor and their own bloodthirsty ambitions.
It is 1921, the Great War is over, the old world is dead, and Paris is a wilderness of tigers.

For the past year, Doctor Varanus has languished in the desert, tormented by heat and inactivity, while her mentor Iosef searches for evidence of his so-called "Black Goat cults" in the ruins of Sumeria, aided by an ambitious banker and an incompetent archaeologist.
