Outlander season 5 (2020)
Episode 1 - The Fiery Cross
"As long as we both shall live " ~ Jamie & Claire Fraser
Such a creep 🤣😂🤣
I am currently reading Voyager by Diana Gabaldon. This is the third book in the Outlander series. I LOVE the depth with the characters, plotlines and stories within this world. They are so richly written and addictive descriptions, characters and settings. I found the book series through watching the Netflix adaptation, the television show. I absolutely love the show, it's one of my new favourites. The books are even better.
Reading this has gotten me thinking, and I've realized there are two sides- or more- to things. There are avid readers whom prefer books to television shows, and there are people whom prefer tv to books. There's nothing wrong with either, do whichever you have the time and mentality for.
I personally love both mediums, but prefer reading when I can. The thing that I have realized, though, is that Netflix or Cinema adaptations of books into entertainment like movies and television shows broadens the audience of whom views the story itself. Sometimes the adapted story piques someones interest enough that they buy the source material- the novels- and reads them, which then gets the author paid more, bwcause more people are buying their novels in turn.
So there are benefits to adaptations of novels or graphic novels or comics, into films and television series. Everything, in my opinion, does not have to be accurate down to the last details for a show, in my opinion. And without the inner monologues and thoughts of characters we tend to get more surface level renditions of the characters.
The thing I love about novels is that you get into a characters shoes and mind in a way that, when they've experienced different things than you, it gives you a braoder perception of the world around you. It causes us as people to have more empathy for others and their situations. Reading physical books, or listening to audiobooks, makes us more aware, more attentive to details, recall things faster and better, than just staring at screens. While Tv and Internet and Streaming shows is a good time filler and a great way to tell stories, I personally love reading about people's adventures, and going on their journey with them, and learning and groeing with the character. I love to see the inner monologues and personal growth, as well as characters morales grow in an organic fashion.
Thank you for reading this post, and for taking the time to read this. It's greatly appreciated. Take care of yourselves, and stay safe.
What are your thoughts on adaptations? Do you like them? Do you not? Are there any books you've picked up because of an adaptation you've seen? Do you have any suggestions on things for me to read?
