He's not sure how long after the clown's defeat that he makes it out. Time doesn't travel linearly all the time anymore, more a meandering path with gaps here and there he tries not to think about. He claws his way out and follows his feet, some imperative pinned inside his chest that keeps him moving.
He mostly travels at night, because the sun burns his skin if he doesn't cover up enough, and because people don't look too closely at his too-pale skin or the dark circles under his eyes or the awkward, skulking way he moves in the dark. The look in his eyes, predatory and hunted in equal measure.
He travels until the gnawing pit in his stomach grows too loud, until it overwhelms everything and everything narrows. He's left covered in somebody else's blood with hazy images that make him want to hurl, but he only retches and coughs. He sleeps, and then he moves on. Tries to ignore this new facet.
It's Bill he finds first, stands on his doorstep in the cold in the middle of the night in stolen clothes in mismatched layers and spends a half hour contemplating the doorbell before he actually presses it.
It's a bad idea, he's pretty sure, but he doesn't know where else to go. Bill always knows what to do.
