for some perspective, saying all lives matter is like asking for straight pride.
the point of black lives matter isn’t to exclude white people or glorify black people. it’s just to validate them. black lives matter is there to show that they are just as human as we are (nevermind that that should be a given anyway).
saying things like all lives matter (or endorsing straight pride for comparison) is completely disregarding the message of the phrase. because yes, of course all lives matter. that’s what it’s trying to prove. of course everyone should be treated equally and of course everyone’s lives matter as much as each other’s. but at the moment—scratch that, all throughout history—that hasn’t been the case. there has never been equality for any race that isn’t white. never.
in saying that, black lives matter isn’t an attack against white people. if anything it’s a plead for us to respect black people. it’s a movement to try and prove (nevermind that it shouldn’t have to be proven) that everyone should be treated equally because they’re sure as hell not treated equally now.
so next time you try and spew your racist ‘all lives matter’ bullshit, think for a moment, and use that time to do something that might make this world a place where the phrase ‘all lives matter’ isn’t questioned.
at least try to do something to make this world a place where everyone is considered valid no matter what.
