"So when they [Joseph and Mary] had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. . . . And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men." - Luke 2:39-40, 52
Jesus' childhood and youth is a very nice thing to observe as to how He was a perfect example. Being a little boy raised in Nazareth, He was subject to the awful environment and faced with the any temptations we confront in our daily lives.
What did He do in order to overcome these temptations?
"In His industrious life there were no idle moments to invite temptation. No aimless hours opened the way for corrupting associations. So far as possible, He closed the door to the tempter. Neither gain nor pleasure, applause nor censure, could induce Him to consent to a wrong act. He was wise to discern evil, and strong to resist it." {DA 72.1}
Jesus never allowed a moment for the devil to induce Him. He was constantly doing something within His childhood for the benefit of others and for Himself. Even during His childhood, Jesus was "wise to discern evil, and strong to resist it."
So what does this mean for us today? Jesus always made time to be with His Father. Studying the word of God, praying constantly, and reflecting the Father through His character is what led Jesus to be in favor with God and men. It is what led Him to be able to discern evil and resist it. There are so many things going on with our daily lives, but that should never take us away from having time with God. Whether it be five minutes or an hour...make time for your God.
