I have a dilemma. I want to go vegan - but I'm also transgender and want to do get, which exploits animals. Help

Hi there, anon! Firstly, switching over to veganism can be a straightforward experience for some people, but it does have lots of little nuances, such as the animal exploitation involved in hormones and medications. Kudos to you for thinking things through so well! I think in your case, it is important to remember the definition of veganism:

“Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.”

Yes, it sucks that transitioning often involves the exploitation of animals, but if you otherwise exclude animal products from your life, I don’t see why you would not fit the above definition. Even if your transition involves the use of animals, you can vastly reduce the harm done by having a vegan diet and lifestyle, and I would never look down on someone in your situation who is doing their best.

If you don't mind saying, what's your gender/sexuality?

It’s no problem! I’m non-binary (afab) and I am primarily into women, but I don’t rule out other non-binary people. If a stranger asks me in real life, I usually just say I’m a lesbian for simplicity unless I know that they’ll understand what all that means.
