A Mikaelson Family Christmas [Chatzy]
Rebekah: Rebekah had spent the past two weeks preparing for Christmas. Since she was romantically alone, she knew that it was time to spend it with her brothers. The blonde had compelled a few humans for feeding, had stocked up on the alcohol, and had ensured that everything was perfectly insured. She poured herself a glass of wine as she waited for her brothers to arrive.
Elijah: Yet another Christmas in an eternal life, the meaning of it – he’d gather after enduring nearly a thousand holidays, was butchered considerably. Merely an event to give people presents that they could possibly hate. Nevertheless, this year, with three out of four siblings residing in Mystic Falls, he’d take advantage of the situation and carry on with the celebration his sister had planned. Entering in one of his best suits before giving a light smile towards Rebekah, noting that Kol had not yet arrived, “Rebekah, everything looks wonderful.” He complimented.
Kol: Checking the time on his watch Kol smiled, he had always loved being the last one to arrive since everyone would be expecting him. He sped through the door and landed roughly on the couch. Kol took in the holiday scenery and grinned. “Any more tinsel and I would be blind.” He joked as he looked to his younger sister. His eyes adverted Elijah for the time being, he wasn’t so sure how this evening was going to go but he hoped nothing would come up about their previous encounter.
Rebekah: Rebekah smiled as Elijah walked in and handed him a glass that she promptly filled with wine. "Thank you," she said with a smile as she kissed her brother on the cheek. When Kol walked in, she laughed and kissed his cheek as well before handing him a glass of whiskey. "Sometimes I wish you were blind."
Elijah: As his eyes diverged to look at his youngest brother, there was no eye contact exchanged. The last encounter he shared with Kol was one that was nothing short of intense. A moment of obscurity, needless to say – he was thankful that Kol walked away than tell his oldest brother to forget him for the rest of time. Oddly enough, it gave him a sense of renewed hope. Accepting the kiss and glass of wine from his sister, a short nod of thanks “ It’s a shame Niklaus appears to be absent.” He prompted taking a small sip from his glass, “Nevertheless, we’ll make the best out of his absence.”
Kol: Taking a long sip of the drink his sister so graciously handed him. “That would be the greatest tragedy; I would never be able to look upon my glorious face again.” He spoke with a small chuckle. He sat back and enjoyed the liquor that warmed his veins. Kol turned his head as Elijah spoke, he hesitated to speak but did so anyway. “A shame? More like a blessing in disguise. Maybe something will go right for a change, although your presence gives me a mild dislike as well.” Kol spoke darting his eyes towards his brother for the first time in weeks.
Rebekah: Rebekah chuckled at Kol's antics and ignored Elijah's remarks about Nik's absence. She didn't want to think about him at Christmas. She raised a brow at the words spoken by her brother. "And what, is wrong with both of you?" she asked, her voice raising for the first time.
Elijah: Even if his family gathered with the intention to spend the night with each other’s company, naturally – they hardly acted as the loving family. Truly surprised at Kol’s remark, he sets his glass of wine on the table before directing his gaze at his brother, “Perhaps my Christmas gift to you, Kol – would be my absence from this dinner. If not, then I do believe you have the skillset to ignore me.” He says back, recalling the conversation he had with Paige Fuller on recent that regarded Kol but that hardly needed to be brought up just at the moment. At his sister’s raised voice, he merely shakes his head, “Nothing you need to concern yourself with sister.” It was hardly dinner conversation considering the personal spat the two brothers shared the few weeks before. After all he didn't believe Kol would like to bring up the fact that given the opportunity to banish Elijah from his life - considering Kol considered himself to be without humanity, had no answer.
Kol: Kol scowled at his elder brother’s words. “Oh shut it, ‘Lijah. I am allowed to complain as I please. Perhaps you should just ignore me; it should be a measly task for the mighty ‘lijah and his calm persona” Kol retorted with a disdain in his voice. Ignoring Rebekah’s words he turned his attention to the shining tree by his side. His eyes sparkled at the gift that had his name on it. Kol loved gifts and that was one of his main reasons for even celebrating this holiday. “Fine then. Speaking of presents…” he paused and looked at Rebekah. “When can we open them?”
Rebekah: Rebekah raised a brow. Obviously something was going on with her brothers that they didn't want her to know and the blonde Original certainly wasn't going to let that go unpunished. She finished off her wine and smiled, slightly baring her fangs. "Both of you need to stop arguing. There's enough of that when Nik is around. We will never be as we were as humans, but we are still family. Remember that." She looked at the tree and tilted her head to the side. "After dinner, of course."
Elijah: “You’re right, brother. I almost forgot that you are obligated to your snarky comments – it wouldn’t be Christmas without them.” He spoke calmly however; he laced his own sarcasm into his words. Raising a brow as Rebekah bared her vampire traits towards her brother, “And what of your turmoil with Niklaus, Rebekah?”
Kol: Kol silently turned his head from Elijah, a small smirk curled up on his lips as he did so. The brightness in his eyes slowly dimmed as she spoke. Dinner was obviously something he was looking forward to but presents had his attention over dinner. “Fine, fine.” He sighed getting up from his comfortable position. “Let us get to it then.” When Elijah spoke his words Kol shook his head at him and took a deep breath.
Rebekah: Rebekah rolled her eyes at her brothers. "Niklaus is not here. I would think that alone is a cause for celebration. Wouldn't you both agree?" She sniffed and indicated the compelled humans at the end of the dining room. "Just don't kill them. I don't feel like having to clean that mess up."
Elijah: He honestly cannot even be surprised that Rebekah insisted on a live dinner nevertheless, he beckons for one to come, “If you will.” He says softly before the human slit her wrist pouring it into the glass. He in exchange bites his own wrist feeding the woman as her wound heals quickly.
Kol: Kol smiled at his sisters words; he could have guessed she would say something along those lines. His eyes looked over to the meal for the day. “Hmm I am in the mood for a blonde today.” He smiled as he motioned for her to come over to him. Kol chuckled at Elijah’s morally fit way of feeding. While Elijah was worried about not harming the human Kol did the opposite. Baring his fangs he plunged his teeth into the woman’s wrist. He released and looked to his brother, “Don’t want to get your suit dirty?” he quipped as he cleaned the blood around his mouth with a napkin.
Rebekah: Rebekah was annoyed at Elijah's worry about humans. She remembered when he wasn't nearly so concerned and found it strange. She raised a brow. "Since when do you worry about hurting humans?" she asked him. "Did the doppelgänger make you soft?" She sniffed in approval as Kol began to feed as she chose a brunette woman, her fangs slipping into the woman's neck as she felt the blood enter her system.
Elijah: These days Elijah seemed to bear more guilt, having more conscience in regards to the little things. Although he was an Original vampire, as they say the superior species, what had they done that was so significant in this world in the last thousands of years? Drinking for the glass of blood, before wiping his mouth with a napkin “Personal preference, brother.” However, he raises a brow at her sister at the mention of doppelganger, “Since these particular humans have not wronged us.” He noted, “I do not know what you’re speaking of, sister. Elena Gilbert holds nothing over me, after all – she did conspire to kill Finn.”
Kol: Biting down again a tad bit harder, Kol looked up to his brother. “Why are you so boring?” he said as he shook his head with a sigh. Elijah was always so noble and moral and all that stuff Kol saw as nothing but a waste. He liked Elijah when his buttons were pushed, so it was a mission of his to do so before the night ends. He glanced over to Rebekah with a smile and then back to his brother. “If I only preyed on the humans who have wronged me my kill count would be cut in half.” He said with a small chuckle. Kol batted his eyes at Elijah. “Wrong one, what about Katerina.” He said with a cheeky grin.
Rebekah: Rebekah could not believe both of her brothers wanted to fight on such a glorious day. She could see the claws coming out with both of them and worried that her planning would be for naught. She looked at Kol and raised a disapproving eyebrow. "Now, Kol, be nice. Elijah is still our brother. It isn't nice to taunt him so, especially when he's been as much of Niklaus' victim as the rest of us." She took another long sip of her drink and looked at Elijah. "And Elijah. You do not need to act so formal. We are your family. The only one you will have."
Elijah: Elijah found himself gripping the edge of his seat slightly at the sight of his youngest brother’s fangs pressed into the brunette’s neck – obviously she was compelled to be silent but he could imagine the pain she would be feeling is she survived this ordeal. “If I wasn’t boring Kol then you probably would believe me to be upstaging you.” His brother’s comment caused to shift slightly, “That reminds me, what has the girl – what was her name – Paige Fuller done that she deserves to be given the anxiety that you are after her?” At the mention of Katerina he’s careful not to feign an emotion, “She’s as persistant to escape the wrath of Niklaus.” With another sip from his glass, “This is a brand new suit, Rebekah – I prefer not to stain in the very least. Naturally – we are blood family and I do acknowledge that and appreciate it entirely.”
Kol: His eyes rolled at Rebekah’s words of peace, but ignored it entirely. Kol burst out into a hearty laugh as his brother spoke. “You? Upstage me? Good one brother. I’m sure your nonexistent years of torment towards others wouldn’t help the matter. If you want a duel of blood shed I can give you one.” He spoke with wide eyes and a slightly evil grin across his face. He could tell he was getting to him, and that only urged him on more so. “It was supposed to be worse, but Damon Salvatore beat me to it. So unfortunately I cannot take full responsibility for that one. The panic in her eyes was not as fulfilling as it would have been if I were the one to reveal the supernatural to her.” He said looking Elijah directly in the eye with a smile. “Oh is that all?” he chuckled making kissy faces at him.
Rebekah: The argument was escalating and Rebekah fought to regain control. Her eyes narrowed at Elijah's comment about "blood family," and she let out a low hiss of air. "If you're only here because you feel an obligation, then you needn't be," she stated to Elijah. "I wanted our family to spend time together, enjoying each other, but if all you can do is fight and wish to not be here, then I suppose I'll have to live with it." She saw Kol instigating even more and let out a groan at the sight of his compelled human's neck. "Kol, feed the girl some of your blood. We don't need her dying." She sat down into a dining chair. "If you're going to fight, can you wait to do it? All I asked for was one bloody day of peace. It can't be that hard to give it to me."
Elijah: Elijah’s temper was one that was manageable – something that was hard to provoke but it wasn’t an impossible task. After all, he was an Original and they were known for their tempers. “How would you know, Kol? Haven’t you been in a box for the last century or so until I undaggered you within this last year? For all you know, perhaps my year of torment resided in the year Niklaus put you in a box to collect dust.” He said, his words flowing and firm. “Are you challenging me? I’ve found that my patience is withering these days. Well you see, I’ve given Miss Fuller my word that no harm should come to her should I be around to prevent it. And as you know, Kol – I despise the idea of breaking my word.” He stares slightly at the moment kissy faces were thrown at him, “I have never been romantically involved with Katerina – after all, she’s spent the centuries running from anything Mikaelson.” He sighs deeply before looking at his fair haired sister, “Forgive me, Rebekah – I do not wish to give you the impression that I do not wish to be here. You decorated the house remarkably and if Kol will cease his banter, I’ll enjoy our Christmas dinner more.”
Kol: Pushing the women aside Kol stood from his seat and looked towards his brother. Talk of his wretched imprisonment in six wooden walls was enough to get his temper sparked. His playful demeanor turned dark in a matter of seconds and his eyes squinted with unpleasantness. “If it wasn’t for your constant moral duties to him, then you would have joined us in those very boxes.” He spat at him with a sharp tongue. Slamming his hands on the table he looked to Elijah with a steady glare. “I never back down from a challenge, you know that. “ Kol paused for a moment as a menacing smirk crawled upon his lips. “Maybe I’ll go pay her a visit and show her what true pain and panic truly is. Devaluing your word in the process” he hissed his words out with full intentions to live up to what he had said. “And now? I heard she has learned that she isn’t on Nik’s priority list at the moment.” He spoke with a raised eyebrow. Lifting up the girl he handed her body to Rebekah, “Oh you do it, ‘Bekah.” He spoke still fuming with anger. His eyes shot to Elijah as he spoke a scowl appeared on his face.
Rebekah: Rebekah smiled lightly at Elijah, knowing that he was trying to make her feel better, if only because it was Christmas. She nodded briefly and rolled her eyes as Kol pushed the woman aside. As Kol handed the woman to her, Rebekah raised a brow and bit neatly at her wrist, giving the woman a couple of drops before pulling back. "Kol," she said, her voice hard. "It's Christmas. You can fight with Elijah tomorrow, but please, for me, let's try and enjoy Christmas?" Her lips pursed as she looked back at Elijah and her pleading eyes grew larger as she tried to keep her emotions from taking over.
Elijah: “Then perhaps for once my morality was of an assistance to me – after all, isn’t survival key?” Elijah said lightly before setting his glass down. His brother slams his hands down without so much as a flinch from Elijah. Merely a steady glance, “That is true, you don’t. But you see, Kol, do you ever truly win? Did you win the previous night when you walked away?” There it was and when it left his mouth Elijah somewhat regretted it. “Touch Paige Fuller and I might just to do something as drastic as finding Niklaus. Do you honestly need someone to put you in your place, Kol? And I say again, please sit down so our sister can have her Christmas gift of peace.”
Kol: When the words slipped out of Elijah’s mouth his hostile demeanor gave way for a moment. There was always something about Elijah and the truth in his words that made anyone who heard them think deeper about themselves. When the dreaded moment finally came his eyes went blank as he thought about that day, and then like a wave it all came back tenfold. In a fit of rage Kol sped towards Elijah and forcefully pushed him into the wall behind him. Decorations flew down from the wall as well as an obvious dent that came from impact. “Sorry ‘Bekah, but we don’t have peace in this family.” He spat angrily.
Rebekah: Rebekah knew the second that Elijah mentioned Niklaus that Kol was not going to appreciate it. She bit her lip and her eyes widened as Kol pushed their elder brother into the wall. She sighed loudly. "Kol," she said, her voice even and low. "I'm asking you to do this for me. It's Rebekah, your little sister, remember? Please let him go. You can practice staking each other tomorrow." She pinched her nose and took another long pull on her drink before pouring yet another.
Elijah: He found it somewhat humorous, as he felt the impact of the Kol’s strength slam him into their manor wall, which all Rebekah continually insisted not that they shouldn’t fight but that they shouldn’t fight on this given day. How completely delirious their family was to be used to this type of behavior. Perhaps it was lost cause as he can feel himself tire of this life. There was hardly any honor, no defense of one’s family, it was one man for himself and perhaps he knew that now. And something sparked in him, this rage that he had been holding in for perhaps the last century and it was directed at his youngest brother. With his free hand, he swings at Kol’s jaw before taking the moment of lapse to clench Kol’s neck and slam him into the opposite wall with his sister’s Christmas decorations falling onto the floor. “Do you have any idea what I would do for you?” Merely a second later before he briefly struggles against Kol however soon shoves him again, “For both of you. I have been blind to this abuse, you’re right Kol – this family will never know peace. We are damned to this earth to hate each other and you are both children.” He can feel himself breaking at the truth of his words before staring at Kol, hand still on his brother’s neck “Like I said before Kol, I would move the Earth to see us at peace but you wouldn’t even move a feather for family. What does that say about you?”
Kol: Well there it was in all of its disastrous glory. The moment when he made Elijah snap with true anger. It was built up and up and up and then it all came crashing down in a matter of seconds. The room fell silent as Kol was at the end of Elijah’s strong grip. Why did he always do this? This day could have gone smoothly. The family could have been happy and having conversations about humorous tales. Why was seeing someone break so damn entertaining to him? Elijah, the only brother who has never wronged him was telling him his thoughts and all Kol could do was reply with a smirk. He found it funny and to him that didn’t seem right but that was one of the only emotions he felt now a days. His sister worked so hard for this night to be perfect and he was putting all of that work in vain. With Elijah’s grip around his neck he choked out his words, “It says that I am a not pitiful creature.” He spoke with a smile slithering on his face. Why couldn’t Kol just suck it up and play nice. Christmas was about bringing the family closer and all he was doing was ripping them apart. His eyes wandered over to his little sister and they conveyed a sliver of apology as they did against his will when he messed up.
Rebekah: Rebekah was annoyed at Elijah calling her a child. She sniffed and rolled her eyes but didn't respond, giving him a scathing glare instead. She hadn't wanted this day to escalate like this. "Elijah," she said with a steel in her voice. "That is unfair and you know it. I have done nothing to hurt you and to lump me into the category of uncaring is not just rude, it's ignorant." She caught Kol's apologetic gaze and responded with a hard one of her own. "Loving us doesn't make you pitiful," she said with a scorn. "Our family is stronger united instead of divided. Our family's fates are tied together and you, Kol, are too stubborn to see it. We made a mistake all those years ago, not finding you and keeping you with us. I can admit that. But we also did you a favor, because you didn't need to deal with Niklaus' anger issues. You didn't get daggered nearly as much as the rest of us. We will live for eternity and I do not want to spend it fighting." Her voice steadily got louder and higher as she fought tears. "I don't want to spend it apart either. We are all we have. Elijah, you must understand that we don't all share your morals and that is our right. Kol, you must understand that we all need each other. This is our family and I refuse to allow you both to ruin it. You are all I have." She closed her red-rimmed eyes and turned away from them as tears spilled over her cheeks.
Elijah: Perhaps Elijah should have just moved to some third world country to escape this all - as all his younger brother could do was merely smirk. And for some reason, all he could do was hear the sound of his heart break; he could feel an invisible knife stab him repeatedly as Kol’s blatant disregard for him was sheared into his mind. At his words, “it’s says that I am not a pitiful creature” Elijah with his strength’s rage flings his brother onto the floor before turning around unable to look at his family, “All I can do is feel sorry for you, Kol. You are the epitome of an empty man. Because nothing in this world will ever be good enough for you and you don’t deserve love or affection or even respect. I can’t even look at you.” He heads his sister’s voice as her voice could cut through the room, “If I’m ignorant then so be it. A grown woman would’ve attempted to pry her brother’s off not make some lowly comment about saving it for a later date but maybe it was inevitable. Perhaps, I’m no better for playing into his games. I’m sorry but I cannot keep looking for something that isn’t there. “His voice tired, so completely drained as his back is still against the two figures in the room. “I apologize, Rebekah. But I do not think I can do this anymore, I have spent centuries on one single quest and if I haven’t achieved it in the slightest then perhaps, I shouldn’t be a fool anymore. We are more than a broken mirror – we are a charged piece of wood. And there’s no restoring that. I see that now.”
Kol: The next thing he knew Kol was buried in the ground, the back of his skull cracking from the sheer force. He had never seen Elijah this mad and for a mere second he felt regret and a fleeting sadness that one could not describe in words. As fast the slightest emotion came it went, like I usually did. Through the years the only thing that stayed the same was his family, no matter what time period or what fight they had they were still all he had left in the world. And he time after time tarnished that very solidarity like it meant nothing to him. But he couldn’t help it, without his emotions Kol was programed for destruction. This was not only true in the physical sense but also the emotional one as the current situation proved. That was the way he has always been since he flipped his switch. Speedily getting up Kol was ready to finish this fight but something stopped him, and it wasn’t the pain raging from the back of his skull as it healed. His hand rubbed against the healing wound as he looked to the blackness of Elijah’s back. He had nothing to say to Elijah, he didn’t want to run off again like he did last time. Running from this problem was not getting him anywhere. “’Lijah…” he simply said with a half-smile as he usually wore. His heart beat rose dramatically and he could hear it in his ears, his bones shook, Kol had no idea what was happening to him. He looked down with his hand running through his hair. There was always something about Elijah saying that he was going to give up on them that brought forth that speak of emotion that still lingered in Kol’s heart. “Stop with all the metaphors, I am sorry okay.” He spoke the foreign words to him in a muffled voice.
Rebekah: Rebekah began to cry as she listened to her brothers. Elijah's silence and the fact that he turned from them upset her and when he spoke, her tears came out fresher than before. "Elijah, you're being," she couldn't even finish speaking. The thought of her brother abandoning her, the one brother that had been her constant for years even if he wasn't always her favorite, made her want to stake herself and she could not console herself. When she heard Kol speak and apologize, she felt her chest warm though she didn't want to believe it. "Elijah, you cannot leave us," she managed to get out before she wiped her tears away.
Elijah: I’m sorry. Two words that uttered from his youngest brother’s mouth and Elijah only wished that he could’ve seen it for himself had he not been so disgusted at the sight of Kol beaten because of Elijah’s untamed fury. He knew that Kol’s apology was one rare – but he’s learned something. Words are cheap and actions speak louder. At the sound of Rebekah’s sob, he knew that he couldn’t walk out on his family; he couldn’t pretend that they didn’t exist. He couldn’t lie to himself. But what he couldn’t do was sit and watch the destruction unravel once more – to have his heart broken again. “You are right, Rebekah. I cannot leave either of you. And that is why; I will leave you two to figure out what you want. So I beg of you, do not look for me until you’ve chosen what you desire most. Whether it be love, family or to raise Hell. But I cannot sit here and do this over and over again; I can’t continuously be played as a fool. Please do not look for me.”And with that, Elijah without looking upon his family, turns and walks out the door. What a beautiful Mikaelson Christmas.
Kol: Elijah’s words were burned into his mind as he spoke. The decision was there and it had Kol relieved to a sense that Elijah still had hope for the lot of them. He watched as his neatly dressed brother walked out the door so elegantly and filled with the utmost confidence about his decision. This Christmas evening went as astray as he had predicted, but he never foresaw it leading to this. Silently, Kol looked up to his sister with fresh tears rolling down her face and didn’t say a word.
