the fall was surprising. kibum knows he’s been injured while dancing before, but nothing serious has happened since he was much younger, since he was always dancing outside with luminosity. it’s been a very long time, but he has sprained an ankle before, and as soon as he stands from his fall and goes to continue dancing, he’s fairly certain that’s what he’s done now. 

he doesn’t let himself think about what this means for the rest of convex promotions, all of the rest of his focus going into finishing the last verse of the song and trying to avoid putting weight on his right foot whenever possible. his expression is more of a strained grimace than a smile, he’s sure, and he can’t quite spare enough breath to contribute to the singing of the chorus, but he mouths the words automatically, keeping all his focus on not falling again. 

kibum is one of the members standing in the final pose, and as soon as the last note fades out, he leans forward onto the person kneeling directly in front of him, who happens to be jinki. “sorry,” he croaks, but he finds that putting some of his weight on another person helps his foot pain, and he’s hesitant to let go. “i think i hurt my ankle in that fall,” he adds as an explanation, his voice still quiet and strained.

easily excited ;

“JINKIIIIIII!” eve’s voice echoes in sphere’s corridor, loud and excited as she runs up behind her friend, throwing her arms around him as soon as he turns around, her laughter easily identifiable to anyone who’s known her for longer than five minutes. “i feel like i haven’t seen you in ages! how goes the debut prep? you guys are debuting in a week, that’s so soon! i’m so excited for you!”

she bounces up and down as she talks, releasing him from the embrace but still hooking arms with him so she doesn’t go too far -- never let anyone tell you that ha eve sooyoung doesn’t absolutely love skinship. “i’m gonna try to go to the showcase. i can’t let you guys debut without me there! besides, i’ve gotta see how the mv turned out. i’m sure my one second of screentime is gonna be the most popular second of the video,” she babbles, dramatically tossing her hair over one shoulder as she fake-brags. “but seriously, i really am excited. how are you feeling about it?”

au - lost child

they're in the mall, just wandering around rather aimlessly and enjoying their family outing. as they go into a clothing store, kibum is holding haneul's hand and jinki is carrying hanbyul, who seems to be ready for naptime, what with the way she leans her head on her father's shoulder and doesn't even look around at the passing people like she usually does.

kibum drops haneul's hand to flick through a clothes rack, sighing as it proves to be disappointing. he glances through another rack briefly before shaking his head and turning back to jinki. "come on, there's nothing good here," he says, leading his husband back to the exit.

he doesn't even realize that his daughter's familiar, small fingers are no longer wrapped around his own.

these small hours still remain

kibum fidgets in his seat in the back of a cab, checking his phone every few seconds. he texted jinki when he landed, and then when he got off the plane, then when he picked up his luggage, and then when he was waiting for the taxi. he hasn't yet gotten a response for any of those texts, and he scowls at the device, as if it's the phone's fault jinki hasn't replied.

finally the cab stops in front of a familiar house, and kibum's heart leaps in excitement. he pays the driver  before clambering out of the car and dragging one of his suitcases from the trunk as the driver gets the other one.

together they roll the suitcases up the sidewalk to the front porch, where kibum digs around in his carry-on bag for his key. once he finds it and unlocks the door, he tips and thanks the driver -- habits picked up from jinki.

as the driver walks back down to his cab, kibum steps into the house and pulls off his shoes, pouting a little because there isn't a welcome home party waiting for him at the door. he looks around, realizing that he can't even hear his family -- but he's sure he saw both of their cars in the driveway, so he leaves his suitcases by the door and drops his backpack onto the couch as he walks further into the familiar house, calling out as loudly as he can.

"i'm home!"

[ past ] visiting hours \ jinki&key

key sat on his bed in his room, a paperback book open in his lap. he was mildly surprised he was allowed to have books--what if he purposefully got a paper cut and then let himself bleed to death? scoffing at the thought, the blond shook his head, staring down at the words on the page without really seeing them. he had every reason to be distracted; today marked the seventh day since he had been put on suicide watch, and he was still no closer to getting discharged.

after he woke up and was told he was in the psych ward of seoul general hospital, it didn't take key long to figure out how to get himself out: he would have to be social, to talk and interact with the other patients regularly, and not cause any trouble for the nurses and doctors, whose sickly sugary voices and cold, calculating stares made him want to vomit every time he was subjected to them. needless to say, key had, for the most part, been ignoring the others around him. the only other patient he ever spent time with was his neighbor youngjae, and even then they didn't really do much actual talking--for the most part they just sat in key's room and rolled their eyes at each other as they complained about the hospital's food quality.

thankfully, key was expecting a visitor today--his old high school friend jinki, who apparently worked in the children's hospital next door, had found him in here a few days prior and immediately promised to visit as often as he could. visiting hours had started fifteen minutes prior, so key kept sending annoyed glances to the clock, as if it was at fault for his friend's tardiness.
