OC ASKS I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS

Ok well hi you know me I’ve been here a while but I know you’re re-writing stuff with the Destroy Me babies and Ngl I’ve forgotten most of their lore beyond the surface level and I wanna get back up to speed…. How can I do this……… If u don’t have a master post or a summary or anythang rn that’s fine tho I have a more specific side question as well—What’s Shelby and Aka’s story and relationship like?

So for getting back up to speed, I have my oc blog @fagdykez ! Keep in mind though that most of the stuff there is pretty old. Like. Pre-Trans Yaman old. I still need to figure out the shit that happens after Allister dies too. There's a lot to figure out lmao.

So what I have for Shelby and Aka, which admittedly isn't a lot, is that Aka made a deal with Shelby as a child. Shelby was interested in Aka because Canaries (Dragonborn/Elf hybrids) are incredibly rare. It was like seeing a dodo bird in modern-day America for them. Shelby tricked Aka into going away from her family and into making a deal with one of the most powerful fae in Travabozi.

Aka was raised in isolation because of Shelby. She doesn't have a lot of social skills because of it. Plus it doesn't help that Shelby wasn't exactly a loving caretaker. Most of the bonding activities between the two of them were probably just Shelby making Aka eat something she didn't want to and revealing what it was after the fact. Then when you add Aka's regular escape attempts, it doesn't paint a very pretty picture.

I honestly think the only reason Shelby would ever be kind to anyone is to get something in return. And I think that's the reason Aka would be so drawn to Allister. He's not very kind at all. There's no reason to think he wants anything from her. And when he is kind, it actually means something.

Tags on this... Begging for the fic 🙏🏾

Okay so I DO have something I’m working on for that (idk it’ll be a comic or a fic or just deranged ramblings forever entombed in my documents folder) but here’s a few quick thoughts.

(ETA: this is neither few nor quick, but have it anyway)

So imagine – Mel returns from the Black Rose’s shadow realm or whatever, and she’s alone. Her friend is dead, her boyfriend is missing, and her mother’s political machinations are at an all-time high. She’s got this new power that, as far as she’s ever been told, has not just the potential for destruction, but the guarantee. She’s not who she thought she was, and worse yet, she’s not even who she wanted to be. She’s simultaneously powerless, and more powerful than she’s ever been.

So without any guidance, she has to try and feel her way through it, right? And maybe it’s a situation of like-calling-to-like, and she finds herself drawn to the other sources of the arcane within the city. First to the Hexgates, then Jayce and Viktor’s empty lab, and finally towards a part of the Undercity she’s never thought about much less visited. And there in the muck of the deepest fissures she finds people, all thrumming with the same energy she’s only just started familiarizing herself with.

At this point I figure Viktor is just getting into the swing of things, really reveling in this community – or at least the start of one – of literally like-minded individuals, a seeming utopia carved into the bedrock of the Undercity’s most desolate depths. And here comes Mel, the embodiment of PIltover’s elite and privilege, suffering the same metaphysical revelations as him, and he’s probably DELIGHTED to have someone to share in this new experience.

Here, I’d really love to explore how their powers interact – Mel’s ability is natural, Viktor’s is artificial via the Hexcore. Mel can access a natural well of power but has little control over it. Viktor has been studying the concept of arcane magic for years, so he’s able to immediately bend it to his will, but his power is finite, limited to his own reserves. I like to think if he tried to connect with her like he does his followers, that his power would just flow through her, forcing them to figure out her abilities without the aid of a magic mind-meld like how Viktor worked on Vander.

And just think about it!! Viktor throwing around years of theory and carefully calculated hypotheses and Mel just being like “Hmm… no, that doesn’t feel right.” They’d have to find common ground through discussion and teamwork and it would have none of the easy camaraderie of Viktor’s partnership with Jayce or the political two-step of Mel’s work with the Council, they’d just be hanging out and discovering 200 ways to not make a lightbulb.

I imagine it’s slow progress from that point forward, but eventually they get it figured out – Mel her control and Viktor the fine-tuning of his own powers. I don’t know if Mel would have the same objections to Viktor’s commune without Jayce’s foreknowledge of what the final glorious evolution actually looks like, and Viktor isn’t even contemplating that before Jayce kills him, so I think he and Mel would have several months of genuine peace. Maybe it’s even a bit of a slow boil, Mel becoming disenfranchised with the direction Piltover is going with Caitlyn as leader and Ambessa’s continued meddling – I bet the unity and prosperity of Viktor’s commune would seem more and more ideal.

So you have months of this unlikely partnership, the two of them brought together over a shared power and then later by their desire for a peaceful reign free of the violent conquest of Noxus or the corrupt apathy of Piltover. But despite their growing relationship, at the heart of it all Mel and Viktor never really knew each other before all of this. They helped develop these new versions of each other, but a lot of their old flaws are still there, unquestioned by the other as a concession to all the traits they admire. Viktor still lets his life-long loneliness drive his actions in the commune, uncritical of the potential impact on autonomy or free-will – while Mel clings desperately to pacifism even as she trains a power with the ability to topple armies, thinking she can be the exception to unchecked power simply because anything that isn’t her mother’s brand of oppression must be an improvement.

And this is the situation Jayce walks into however-many-months later. Fresh off the existential mind fuck of finding out his life had been saved as a child against the better interests of the rest of humanity, he’s resolved to end the cycle before the worst can come to pass. But he’s met with Mel of all people – Mel wielding magic, Mel defending the Undercity, Mel defending Viktor. From JAYCE.

Jayce post-time travel has a resolve we’ve never seen in him before, a determination to commit the ugliest act imaginable, but I think even he would waver if met with that. Viktor he could kill, because Viktor told him to. But Mel? I don’t think his new world view allows for this. Is her magic dangerous too? Is she a part of Viktor’s followers and therefore already gone? Or is she proof of an alternative path? If she can wield magic safely, surely Viktor can too? If she can live in harmony with the commune without being assimilated, surely the rest of the world can? Maybe the situation hasn’t gone too far, maybe there’s still a chance, time, a choice left to make…

Aaaaaand that’s unfortunately about as far as the brainworms have crawled 😔 but I am DETERMINED to do SOMETHING with this, because I just feel like it’d be such a fun concept to explore, not to mention a great jumping off point for discussing some of the themes in Arcane that I think are yet to be explored. (Namely the dichotomy of power in that world, with Mel representing hereditary privilege while Viktor embodies meritocracy and the whole “boot straps” mentality.)

But yeah, that’s the longer version of what I was going on about in those tags lolol, the tl;dr is that I think Mel and Viktor are NEAT in VERY DIFFERENT ways and I would love to see them interact more~
