We are so excited to give grants to these 25 charities! Thank you to all of you who made videos, voted, donated, and supported the 2017 Project for Awesome. Each of these organizations will receive a portion of the money raised during the second half!
It’s Project for Awesome time! Project for Awesome, or P4A, is an annual fundraiser that raises money and awareness for all kinds of nonprofit organizations. We’re in the running for a grant of some of the money raised through P4A, and your vote can help us win.
Vote by this Sunday, December 17, to help us support even more writers.
It’s simple:
Search for “NaNoWriMo” on the Project for Awesome site.
Click on each video.
Select the “I’m not a robot” check box, then click the big VOTE box.
Please vote for ALL the NaNoWriMo videos—voting is cumulative!
Why is this so important?
Because we know that stories can change lives…
NaNoWriMo helps people discover that their stories matter, that they can achieve even more than they thought they could, and that they can build worlds. Your votes will help us keep creating experiences like these:
“NaNo has given me something I haven’t had in a long time: a sense of accomplishment. Because I did something hard, but I actually did it [...] I just did something I thought was impossible, and nothing is going to bring me down.”
— TheRavenclawWriter, NaNoWriMo participant
“The impact I have seen is that kids who hated writing and struggle with a short summary are cranking out thousands of words easily. And they are excited to do it.”
— Amber Hummel, Young Writers Program educator
“Last year, I was diagnosed with a tumor on the back of my cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance and other functions [...] I think I would have lost my motivation after a surgery like that if it weren't for NaNoWriMo. While the surgery did impact my memory and writing abilities, I was encouraged by NaNoWriMo to build them back up again. A year ago, I didn't know if I was going to be here to write anything ever again; with the help of Camp NaNo, I finished my fourth project since the surgery, and well over 100,000 words. I have been able to rebuild something important to me with the help of NaNoWriMo.”
— Olivia, Young Writers Program participant

Project for Awesome is an annual community-driven fundraiser.
During Project for Awesome, thousands of people post videos about and advocating for charities that decrease the overall level of world suck. As a community, we promote these videos and raise money for the charities.
In 2016, the community raised over $2,000,000, including several generous matching donations. The donations were split between two organizations chosen by John & Hank — Save the Children and Partners in Health — along with twenty charities chosen by the online video community.
This year, the money raised will be split two ways:
Donations will go to Save the Children and Last Mile Health until 11:59am EST on December 16.
From 12:00pm EST on December 16 through 11:59pm EST on December 19, donations will go to community-chosen organizations, based on votes on the Project for Awesome website.
P4A’s Indiegogo campaign has an amazing selection of perks to choose from, including the 2018 P4A Vlogbrothers calendar and nerdfighter art!
There’s also a 48-hour continuous livestream (projectforawesome.com/live) starting today at noon EST. John & Hank, along with special guests, will announce new perks, put peanut butter on their faces, inhale helium, perform sock puppet theater, do happy dances, sing Christmas songs, and more. It’s an adventure. You never know what will happen, so tune in and join the party!
Tag your tweets/posts using #p4a2017 to share the fun and help promote this year’s fundraiser. Follow @p4a2017 on twitter and @projectforawesome for updates!
It’s Project for Awesome! And that means it’s art perk time! This year I have not just my own work to share, but also my mom’s! She made the Hank and John Giving Bunnies, and I made little sets of matching Hanklerfish goodies with a notebook, a pin, and a constellation patch. If you contribute at the Nerdfighter Art perk level on the indiegogo, one of these cool perks might be yours. But if you don’t get one of these, you’ll get something else cool made by another nerdfighter.
Y’all, I cannot get over how cute and funny the picture of all 30+ BunnyBrothers hanging out together is. They’re so so cute.
I have a few extra pins and notebooks, and I’ll be selling them on Etsy in January and donating the proceeds to the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck for next year’s P4A. Check back here or on my twitter, instagram, or Etsy shop @whimsicalnerd if you’d like one. They will go on sale within the first two weeks of the year. If there’s a lot of interest I’ll make more and try to keep them in stock to raise money for the Foundation year round!
Also, you can find my mom on twitter and instagram @CraftyNerdMom. If you get one of our perks let us know! Happy P4A and DFTBA!
