I'm curious, what's your theory about how Akechi's Robin Hood persona awakened?

so you know how for akira, he gains a new set of personas when he meets a new confidant, and that new set of personas shares the same arcana? akira started off with arsene, and then kept developing new links and gaining new personae.

akechi has the same mechanic to his persona use. he just doesn't feel connections to people the same way akira does. he's guarded as hell and full of hatred and contempt. so he doesn't have confidant links.

except for akira. he sees akira as what he wishes he was strong enough to be, as someone who could have saved him if only they could have met in another world, and because of that, he lets down his walls a little towards him. so akechi isn't just akira's justice confidant; akira is akechi's fool confidant. this is why akechi's confidant ranks up at level 8, even though he isn't talking to the real akira. that was akechi's fool rank increasing, not akira's justice rank.

akechi started off with loki, the same way that akira started off with arsene. but after he met akira, he awakened to robin hood. when he reveals loki to the phantom thieves he says "let me show you who i really am," indicating that he sees loki as his true and original persona. robin hood came later, once he saw that hope and rebellion were options.

yeah there’s something about it that like... feels like a different game. most of the story is something everybody who’s ever been a child can understand and relate to, and then it kinda goes off the rails, which means a lot when your first boss looks like this

i keep... wanting to compare it to vesperia, in that it feels like it forgot what it was trying to do and that it kind of gave up on the idea of consequences and soul in favor of just going out with as big a bang as possible. i read this review of infinity wars the other day that said something that’s probably going to stick with me for awhile: “...it’s the reason the best superhero stories are always about cost. They’re about how truly difficult it is to do the right thing; not how hard it is to defeat someone.” p5 is essentially a classic superhero story, and it absolutely goes from being about “the difficulties of doing the right thing” to “wow big dude punch harder.”

and the whole last bit just wasn’t fun to play through. i was stuck in this NEVER-ENDING SERIES of dungeons and cutscenes and i get that like, due to the nature of the beast they have to reach a date and be like “okay this is it,” but also wow in practice is that a bunch of ass. especially because the game didn’t even END till three months later. why couldn’t i have had those three months to do more shit. and i mean, i was playing on easy, i can’t even imagine how infuriating it would have started to get on any setting with a bit of challenge behind it.

something that worked for paper mario doesn’t work in a setting like this. there’s a way to go out on a hopeful, positive note without being as disjointed and wholly different in tone to the rest of the game as this was.

and also, they covered almost an entire year but missed my birthday entirely :(

i feel like... idk. it might be time to end certain story elements that are constantly present? it makes games way too predictable. like, they’re still somewhat shocking when they happen but its just...

you can sorta figure a bunch of stuff out by the end of the second dungeon just going off of how p3 and p4 went, and then the bigger plot stuff you have at least a 20% chance of guessing right

maybe those story elements are essential to the persona franchise. I don’t know. It’s probably fine for people who have never played before, but long time fans figure shit out fast.))
