3 April 1965. Operation Steel Tiger. First jet-to-jet Vietnam War combat. The USAF launched its first and largest air strike against the Thanh Hoa Railroad and Highway Bridge in North Vietnam. Two pairs of NVAF MiG-17s intercepted the Americans but failed to achieve a victory.
