Renarin was having a bad day.
Darerah had showed up unexpectedly, saying she needed to talk to him. Turns out her family was pressuring her to move up the wedding. If she had just said this in front of Renarin, he could have ignored it for a while, but no, she had to tell him in front of Dalinar and Navani. Long story short, now he had to deal with a wedding at the end of the week instead of years away.
So of course he was hiding in a coffee shop, burying his worries in a quadruple mocha.
[ID: pencil sketch comic of a Stormlight Archive fic.
Tien holds a cape and says with uncertainty “Kaladin, you’re a Windrunner. Can’t you do it?”
Kaladin says “how did you know??” Teft and Lopen stand behind him supporting him, and all three look surprised. Tien says “my spren saw yours a month ago... I figured you’d tell me when you were ready.”
Kaladin, Lopen, and Teft look to the the right with awkward expressions.
Renarin, holding a spear, looks shocked.
Tien looks at Renarin and says “whoops” with a sheepish expression.
Renarin puts his hand up and says “I won’t tell. It’s a Bridge 4 secret, right? I’m Bridge 4”, smiling awkwardly. End ID]
@cosmerestuck’s Tien Lives AU is very good and I was inspired to draw this scene
Hello I am in Great Need of more Lami Survives AU if u have the time/motivation
“You don’t look happy,” Sabo says around his fork. It says something that Lami can understand him with ease. “What’s wrong?”
“Some one is running around with nii-chan’s name,” Lami answers frowning harder at the article stating that the Trafalgar Law had launched a raid on some island that she wasn’t interested in. “Do we have more information on Trafalgar Law?”
Sabo makes a complicated shrug that is combined with a wave of his hand that Lami takes to mean that they might, but even if they don’t he’ll pull some strings to get her anything that she might want. Sabo is a good friend and if she had to pick someone to have grown up with since her family is dead, she’s fairly certain that she would pick him again.
“I want to know who he is. Where did he find my brother’s name and how long has he,” Lami stops and her heart hurts, because for one small, infinitesimal second, she had hoped that this was her brother. That Law was alive and they had just passed each other by like ships in the night. “Please.”
If this is Law, her Law who had promised her as she lay dying that they would go to the carnival again, Lami wants him back. It’s not hard to imagine that he lived and that they never ran into one another, the world is a big place. But Lami had barely survived and she doubts that Law would have been lucky enough to live, but fuck does she hope.
“What are you gonna do if it is?” Koala asks curiously leaning heavily on the table and sipping her coffee, tiny plate of toast ignored. “I mean, I know you have plans for if it isn’t, but on the off chance it’s him?”
“I,” Lami pauses. “I would want to see him again. To let him know that I’m alive and that I’ve missed him so much. You do know that breakfast is important.”
“Food isn’t for any time before noon,” Koala states dismissively as Sabo snatches up her plate. “I only get it for this one.”
“I don’t eat that much,” Sabo protests. “Dragon eats more than I do.”
Lami shakes her head, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone eat more than Dragon-sama.”
There’s a moment where Sabo’s nose wrinkles in thought and it takes a moment for him to blink away something.
“I think, I think I might have? I feel like I have.”
“Maybe you have.”
Sabo sighs through his nose and he looks so frustrated as he digs back into his breakfast. He always does when he’s failed to remember something, even when Lami insists that amnesia isn’t straight forward and he’s already remembered so much. (They all take care to protect the list of memories that Sabo’s recovered, carefully written out in his messy handwriting. About brothers and playing cards and the Pirate King’s son, who shouldn’t exist, but Sabo insists does.)
“We’ll get information on this Trafalgar Law. Maybe we’ve got a wanted poster somewhere,” Hack says curiously. “I know that it has been a great many years, but I assume you would be able to recognize him?”
“Maybe,” Lami demurs because she doesn’t know. Her memories of Flevance near the end are blurry and she was young, so very young compared to so many of the others that had been there. “I might.”
“Give me a moment.”
Hack leaves and Lami tries to focus on the paper, tries to read more, but she can’t help the way her eyes keep sliding back to Law’s name on the page. How can she focus on something else when someone is pretending-
“We have his wanted poster,” Hack holds it out to her. “He’s got the same scars as you do.”
It’s a warning as much as it’s a comment because her scars are unique. There’s not suppose to be more survivors of Amber Lead and they know that. They’ve always known that. She breathes in and looks at the picture.
“So?”
Those are her mother’s eyes. Her mother’s eyes and her father’s jaw and messy hair. That’s Law’s almost smile that always looked too much like a smirk for his own good and Lami is going to start crying.
“Lami?”
“He looks like my brother,” Lami whispers and her heart feels light as feathers and heavier than concrete. “He looks like my parents.”
Sabo hums, “We’ll need more than that, but if he is,” he smiles. “If he is, I’m sure we can swing a mission if you want to see him again. Let him know that you’re alive.”
Lami nods and her throat aches because Law. This is, might be the part of her that sounds like Sabo whispers, her big brother and Lami has missed him so much that it aches.
“Lami?” Law’s voice is almost soft and he looks at her like she’s been dead. And she has been, at least to him. “You’re?”
“Nii-chan,” Lami smiles because she wants to step closer but she knows how prickly he is now. “You’re alive.”
“Where?”
Lami tilts her head to where Sabo is still staring at Straw Hat Luffy as if he’s something fragile, “There was a member of the Revolutionary Army on Flevance. I was, I wan’t entirely dead and they snuck me out. Saved me. You,I thought I was alone until I saw your name in the paper.”
“And you wanted to keep out of the paper,” the mink at her brother’s side says softly. “I’m Bepo, Law’s first mate.”
“Trafalgar D Water Lami,” Lami curtsies because she’s got better manners then her big brother now. “Thank you for caring for him. I hope, I would like to spend some time, maybe talk?”
“Yes,” Law agrees instantly because that’s her brother. “Yes, I would like to talk,” he takes a step forward and Lami can see that the years have been hard on him. He may have reached their father’s height, but Law was projected to be taller than that. He’ll never reach it and it breaks Lami’s heart. “If you have the time?”
“All the time in the world for my nii-chan.”
So, re: your beliefs will keep you safe, does that mean if I retain my childhood belief that Staying Under The Covers Will Protect Me then keeping the covers pulled up at night will prevent the Gentry from stealing me out of my bed or whatever? Even without salt?
Absolutely. Some things are sacred.
