CHILDHOOD MEMORIES
⇝ Park Ji-ho was born in South Korea and lived there until he was five years old. His family lived in Hawaii, Washington, Texas, and Virginia before settling in Naperville, Illinois. His favorite place to live is Hawaii.
⇝ At the age of eight, he was in a horrible bike accident that resulted in a fractured wrist and several stitches on his left calf. He has a prominent scar on his leg from it.
⇝ Ji-Ho was taught Korean and English even though his parents only knew Korean. After they moved to America they started learning the English language together as a family.
⇝ He was very self conscious about his speech and therefore was often quiet and hiding behind books (and later on whatever gadgets) he could get his hands on. His family moving every few years also made it hard for him to make friends.
⇝ His parents enrolled him in Taekwondo in an attempt to build his confidence and to hopefully help him make more friends. He is a black belt and used to compete, winning quite a few rewards.
⇝ Ji-Ho often helped his mother make dinner, he finds cooking relaxing even though nowadays he doesn’t do it often as he sometimes forgets to eat.
⇝ From a very young age he showed an interest in technology, he would be taking apart his Game Boy just to put it back together again.
THE WONDER YEARS (HIGH SCHOOL)
⇝ Shortly after his Freshman year of high school started, his family moved to Naperville, Illinois. His parents promised him they wouldn’t be moving for at least five years, it was their way of telling him to not be afraid to form connections with his classmates.
⇝ MEETING KENNEDY - Kennedy and Ji-Ho had English class together and she was his first real friend. She would often come up to him before and after class to try to have a friendly conversation with him but he never really gave her the time of day. But then one day during lunch hour she joined him and from then on he quietly joined her group of friends. She’s the one that was always trying to get him out of his comfort zone.
⇝ Since his social skills never really developed growing up, he was kind of socially inept. He didn’t pick up on social cues easily and he spoke matter-of-factly which made him seem cold to most people. It also didn’t help that most people just didn’t seem interesting to him.
⇝ He spent a lot of time in the library or computer lab during any free time he had during school. He was always studying or working on his next big idea.
⇝ He created an app the summer before his Junior year that allowed people to anonymously rate their classmates by their appearance which sent the school into a frenzy. To this day no one has been able to confirm that he was the one behind the app, some people had their suspicions but he was never proven guilty.
⇝ During his Sophomore year it became known school wide how talented he was with computers and all things tech that he became the go-to person whenever someone had broken their phone or laptop or they wanted to enhance something because what they currently had wasn’t enough. He would gladly help out as long as they were able to pay his fee.
⇝ KENNEDY DISAPPEARS - This sent Ji-Ho in a tailspin, but he hid it well. He was never good at showing emotions. He felt lost and could see the people he called his friends start to break and become strangers. In secret he hacked into any police records he could find on her disappearance to try to find her himself. He even looked into any security systems and footage he could find that may have caught her last moments.
THE LAST FIVE YEARS
⇝ After high school graduation he ran away to MIT where he studied Computational Science and Engineering. He graduated a year early and decided to move back to Illinois for his Master’s program and to be closer to his parents.
⇝His first year of college was rough. He was trying to live his life in a way that Kennedy would be proud, which meant a lot of pushing his own boundaries and stepping outside of his comfort zone. This led him to meet some very interesting people.
⇝ He is still a very private and focused person but he has gained a sense of self (or maybe he’s more lost than ever) that he is able to exude some self-confidence that sometimes gets mistaken as arrogance.
⇝ Ji-Ho fell out of touch with a majority of the group. If they message him he would reply but he rarely was the one reaching out to them. He didn’t know what to say and he didn’t want them to know that he failed in finding Kennedy.
⇝ His last year at MIT he got a half sleeve tattoo on his upper right arm. It consisted of cherry blossom branches, an hour glass, a cloud design, and a few other traditional Korean aspects in it. If I can find a photo I will share it.
⇝ He’s grown his hair out a bit, instead of the typical short (bordering buzzcut short) he had through out high school he now has somewhat shaggy black hair.
⇝ He is currently attending Illinois Institute of Technology for his Master’s in Artificial Intelligence.

→ His mother died from a drug overdose when he was eight years old and Elise, his younger half-sister, was four. Not knowing who their father was or having any other family to go to they were thrown into the foster care system.
→ He and Elise were separated, she was adopted relatively quickly into a loving home while he jumped from home to home. None of them were kind to him, it was just his luck it seemed. He endured years of abuse - emotionally, physically, and sexually - until he ran away at the age of fifteen. He hasn’t seen his sister since, and he doesn’t even know where she is.
→ From then on he hoped from shelter to shelter to find a warm place to sleep at night but spent the days wandering the streets trying to survive. Relying on his looks and his charms, he started to do whatever he had to to make a little bit of money. He isn’t proud of any of it.
→ At sixteen he fell into the wrong crowd. He started using, started dealing, started following in his mother’s footsteps because it was easy money but it wasn’t money he was able to keep.
→ At eighteen he ran into his music teacher, Mr. Dennis, and he was the first person to show Mason that he cared. He took him in, only temporary, and helped him get cleaned up. Since then Mason has been clean, he hasn’t been sober but at least he’s been clean.
→ Mr. Dennis is also the person who helped him buy his little school bus and convert it to a home. By the time he was twenty he was on the road and running away once again but this time from the entire city he used to call home.

darcy was always a little more optimistic than was necessary, especially in his early years. he always liked to assume the best of people in any given situation. looking back on his childhood, darcy was always the first to make an excuse for fiona not being around, or to suggest a solution to a problem before it could become a bigger one (no matter how bad of a suggestion it was). from the very beginning, all darcy wanted to do was help.
this stemmed from how shy he was as a kid. his sister or hannah were always there to make him feel safe, and darcy found himself wanting to give that back throughout his life. he gained more confidence as he got older and would always stand up for the people he cared about. he learned to stand tall and be a support for others in the same way others had been for him.
darcy was always just Kind Of good at a lot of things, and not Exceptionally Good at any one specific thing. so he never really knew what he wanted to do with his life. he even took a gap year after high school just to continue trying to figure it out. he had been going to therapy on and off since hannah had left, and his therapist was the one to turn him toward special education. it made sense, because helping people was what darcy wanted to do most. and he hasn’t looked back.
little tidbits n things
darcy loves real hard. he will do anything 4 his friends. especially that circle of people from high school, because while they may have been a little dysfunctional at times, they were always familiar.
he’s fluent in ASL thanks to his minor in deaf studies!
he has a rescue pup named ferris, after his favorite movie.
he’s grown to be a bit more of a realist than an optimist, but he still chooses to see the good in most situations. he tries to turn bad times into learning experiences and things like that.
he apologizes way too often. he also rolls his eyes a lot without realizing it, and drives way too fast.
he absolutely loves to watch football but has never and will never pick one up. he might kick your ass at baseball, though.
for all of his calm, understanding qualities, he can still be a bit impatient. which is why he drives too fast. please don’t get in a car with darcy, ty.
he can sort of switch his sociability on and off. when he’s around people he loves, he’s naturally very open. when it’s an unfamiliar crowd/space, he can still be pretty out there and social, but then he’ll become a recluse once he gets home to chill out.

our sweet evie is less quiet & timid than she used to be, but still struggles with fading into the background. she’s showing up about two weeks late, mostly because she had a hard time making herself come. but her best friend toni pushed her ( with the condition that they still record their weekly podcast remotely ) and she’s finally here. in high school, she was studious, saved every penny she could, and probably thought you were lying to her. these days, she’s a little less skeptical, a little friendlier, but still always has a book in her hands.

Ryann Olivia Hastings was born to an average American, loving family. Her parents owned a small bookstore. She was an only child. Overall, they were your very typical family. They weren’t rich or poor, just comfortable.
Ryann was a painfully shy child, preferring her books to keep her company rather than actual friends. She could always be found in her family’s bookshop, even as a small child. Her parents were her best friends as she found it hard to difficult to connect to the kids in school or in her neighborhood.
One day, Kennedy stepped into the bookstore and changed Ryann’s life. She was never sure why Kennedy chose to befriend her. Kennedy filled Ryann’s world with color and all new friendships. She helped Ryann come out of her shell.
Kennedy introduced Ryann to her already established group of friends. Ryann fit in as well as she could, but she always felt a little bit like an outsider. She always believed that everyone else just put up her because Kennedy told them to. She was grateful to have friends, but she still wasn’t sure how it happened.
In high school, Ryann was head of the literary club. She wrote for the school paper. She did extremely well. She was fully prepared to go to community college and live at home. Her parents, along with Kennedy, pushed her to apply to universities outside of her hometown. She was worried with money, but her parents insisted on loans. She applied to Harvard and to her surprise, got in with a scholarship.
When Kennedy disappeared, Ryann found herself back in her shell. She lost contact with a lot of the group and became more of a homebody again. Ryann was absolutely heartbroken. She lost the one person who truly seemed to get her and helped her grow.
The fall after graduation, Ryann moved to Boston to attend Harvard. She was doing well for the first semester, focusing mostly on her studies instead of making friends.
Around Christmas her first year, tragedy struck again. Her father was killed in a car accident. Ryann was heartbroken yet again and was tempted to move back home. Her mom insisted she stay in school.
Ryann stayed in school, but found it progressively harder to focus on her studies. Her mind was constantly clouded with thoughts of her father and Kennedy.
When she returned for her sophomore year, Harvard took away her scholarship. Her grades had slipped too much. Ryann was ashamed and decided not to tell her mother. She didn’t want to burden her with it. Instead, Ryann took out several loans. She got a job as a tutor to younger students.
Ryann graduated with hefty debts and a degree in English. She wants nothing more than to be a writer. She still lives in Boston but she’s finding it hard to accomplish her dreams of writing. She continues to tutor to pay the bills.
Finding tutoring not covering enough of the bills, Ryann has turned down a different path. She has created an OnlyFans account. She’s found that has provided significantly more money than any other route she’s taken. She’s embarrassed, though, and has yet to share this information with anyone, especially her former friends and mom.
Ryann’s former connections from Kennedy aren’t as strong as they used to be. She’s still unsure how she could have fit in with all of them.
One connection will always pull her back in. Kennedy was the reason Ryann was in the pact. She knows she has to honor her friend and follow through with their pact.

Fiona and Hannah Holland each got pregnant with the same sperm donor about 4 months apart. Fiona gave birth to Austen’s older sibling and Hannah gave birth to Austen.
Austen was practically born with a paintbrush in her hand. Her mother, Hannah, was always in her studio at home, painting into late hours in the night. The two were attached at the hip.
Austen and her sibling (the people pleaser) were raised mostly by their mother, Hannah, while their mom, Fiona, was an English Lit professor and was always at work. When the kids were just sixteen, they woke up to Fiona prepping them for school (which was not normal). Hannah had left them for a new life, something they’d learn a year or so later when they finally realized she’d never be coming back.
When Kennedy went missing, it triggered the abandonment issues that Austen so clearly had, causing her to push her truest, most vulnerable self down as deeply as she could.
Kennedy and Austen had been super close childhood friends, spending countless summers together at the very beach house the group is staying at. Kennedy was Austen’s all time favorite friend to choose to come on trips growing up. Despite being less close in their high school years, they were still part of the same friend group.
Austen spent a year or two post high school just traveling around the world before settling in Portland, Oregon. She’s been working as a barista there… her room in her shared home pretty much strewn with half finished works ( both paintings and photographs )and a bunch of barely hanging on plants.
