If you ever feel like you’re not writing enough because it takes so long to finish a page, just remember that there’s a reason why the publishing industry measures stories in terms of words rather than pages.
Pages in most word programs (google docs, open office, microsoft, etc) are formatted in “letter” size, at 8.5”x11” inches. Meanwhile, the typical industry standard sizes for novels are 5”x8” and 6”x9”. Your final page count may go up significantly once you get into the publishing process.
How big are your pages? Like pixel wise. I wanna make my own comic back everytime I think I choose a good size, my pen is always blurry and pixelated. (also really love your comic, i get so excited whenever there’s a new post!)
I start with an 8.5x11" canvas at 300 ppi. I draw at that size, then export at 1280 pixels wide, 72 ppi. Also my pen is a round brush set at 98 hardness. Thanks for reading 😊
I haven’t properly read a book in like 12 years but put a 500k fanfic in front of me and I gobble that shit right up like it’s the very thing keeping me alive whew
Dimensions and use of popular paper sizes such as the ISO, SRA, metric or British and American formats
Before setting up my InDesign document I thought it would be best to think about different paper sizes for my book. On this website, it has shown the different page sizes, not just A sizes but showing others too.
https://www.thebookdesigner.com/book-sizes/
This site above has helped with showing the most popular page size for different publications, with huge lists go different sizes of pages.
For my own publication I have been thinking of using A5 or somewhere in-between A5 and A4 as I think this is a good size for a book to be held in your hand. Moreover, it makes the book feel more special and gifted which links in with what will be inside of the book.
- A5: 210mm x 148mm
- B5: 250mm x 176mm
- A4: 297mm x 210mm
From these source I saw the size B5 was an in-between size of A5 and A4 and shown from the measurements I have shown from above. This could be a reasonable size I could go with that in-between the both as B5 is slightly higher and wider than A5. However, I still think that A5 will be better for the my book. I am more drawn to A5 as I have mentioned before it gives that more gifted and unique feel. As I think that with a bigger size it would be too over powering and not sentimental giving that loving and appreciation message to the audience - as we always love our family regardless of any circumstances and how we appreciate what they do and give us even if it isn't clear to everyone.
After this research it has made me think about the size am going to set the publication at. I will be setting it up at A5, however, I may consider changing the size slightly throughout my progress if I feel I need more room to work with. I think this should work as I am wanting to add in some inserts, which will be able to add in any extra type of image.
