Kindred Spirits - The Installation :Los Platos De Santos: St. Anthony
Starting with the oldest images in the collection, this painting of St. Anthony was originally painted in early 2018 when I was living mostly off-grid in the foothills of NC on sacred land.
At this time in my life I was struggling healing from a traumatic brain injury sustained to the left side of my brain which occurred in 2016. My financial resources were being drained by the closure of business 40′s shutdown, the major highway connected to my brick and mortar store, Kindred Spirits. Additionally, I was going through my second divorce of my young life, and facing psychological and physical challenges that could have ended my young life.
Being a shaman, I turned to my guides for help. My Christian name, Antonina is the feminized form of Anthony, giving me St. Anthony of Padua as a birth name saint. Feeling no vision for my life, confused by the violence I had experienced in the United States, and navigating a serious mental impediment, I turned to St. Anthony in prayer.
St. Anthony is a well-known finder of lost nouns (people, places, and things!), but he is also known to find pieces of our souls, minds, hearts, and larger visions of life. In our traditions, this is understood as a sort of soul retrieval.
As with all the pieces in the “Kindred Spirits” collection, the work is meant to bring about healing to the eventual owner, and blessings of this patron saint.
Prayer to Saint Anthony:
“Oh Saint Anthony Come to Me, Show Me What I Need to See”
