“please feel free to call me as your witness,” she said, giving him a salute as a joke. andrea laughed at the mention of levi’s older brother but there was a tinge of sadness within the laugh. like reminiscing on how things used to be. “i mean, the industry is really messy and sometimes the record deals aren’t the best,” she explained. she also hadn’t been approached by a lot of record companies, but that was for another time. “like what happened with taylor swift and stuff, i think building my following through social media gives me more leverage.” she had amassed quite the following for a musician with no record deal and one who mostly made songs in her makeshift recording studio. “i can send you the link to my soundcloud and youtube,” she offered. she was never comfortable singing in front of people she knew, especially her original songs. but sending people links was a lot easier because there was almost a shield between them.
andrea nodded. whenever she came back home, which was rarely, she usually limited her stays to a week or less. it wasn’t that she didn’t love her parents, but even they understood that being there for too long would just send her spiraling. “yeah, i have to get back sometime.” she felt a little guilty for never staying for more than a week, but it was what she had decided to do a while ago and it just stuck. “yeah, definitely,” she said with a smile. “do you still have the same number? i can text you.”
“Ah,” Levi said addressing what she had just said about the record labels as if he had any idea of what Andrea was actually talking about and continued to nod. “I bet it would be a difficult thing to navigate. I can’t imagine anything like that but I also feel like you’d be good at that stuff.” Levi smiled at his ex-girlfriend fondly as Andrea had always been very good at doing things for herself and not taking crap from others which was something that Levi had fallen for way back when.
Nodding, Levi smiled again. “That’d be great. Is your phone number still the same? If it’s not add yourself to my phone if you’d like.” He said and put his hand in his pocket to get his iPhone out. “I can’t say I followed what happened to Taylor Swift but I will take your word for it.” Levi winked at the woman so that she knew he was just being silly; though he really didn’t follow the music scene or what was popular. He had always liked the indie bands that no one liked or older music like Simon and Garfunkel or Elton John. But who didn’t like Elton John?
Levi chuckled at how she had just asked him the same question that he had in regarding his phone number that he had to her. “Yeah, it’s the same. Same old me really.” He went on and shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly as the palaeontologist didn’t think he had changed much, but maybe he was wrong. “It’s too bad you have to go back so soon, but I get it. Should I let you get on your way then?” He asked a bit awkwardly not wanting to say goodbye to the woman who he was pretty sure after all these years still had his heart in her hands. @paintingskylines
