Voltron Season 8 spoilers!

This is the last review I’m going to make, though I may reblog others.

So many people are disappointed by season 8. I am too. Some people may say our expectations were too high but we’ve had enough shows with good writing, and the previous seasons of Voltron had good writing, so it’s obvious our expectations would be high. Also consider the fact that it’s the last season of Voltron. Voltron has had its ups and downs, unfortunately I would say the last season was one of the downs.

One of the biggest disappointments was then killing off Allura. She was a very crucial main character who had a lot of influence on the main characters and us. Even if she wasn’t your favorite character killing her was the wrong move. She was a strong princess that many girls could look up to and killing her off really hurt a lot of the fans.

One of the things I was most disappointed in was the relationships. The paladins didn’t interact in the same way they had previously, especially Keith and Shiro.

With everything that happened between them, especially their fight in season six, you’d think Shiro would have at least acknowledged Keith’s “You’re my brother, I love you”, because it’s always been hard for Keith to express his feelings to people. But we really only see one major interaction between them in the Clear Day episode.

And I already mentioned how Allura and Lance’s relationship felt forced. And how Shiro’s relationship with Curtis was nonexistent on screen until the wedding.

I think this season was too rushed for them to give us the same interactions as with the previous season, because they had to focus on the main plot with Honerva.

I do think the main plot was interesting, though there were some ways it could’ve been executed better. I think bringing the original paladins to help them was interesting, though having them going deeper into Honerva’s mind felt a bit too much like Inception.

The last episode just felt like they were trying to end it by tying all the loose ends, even if there were still things that didn’t make sense, like how Lance became Altean?! Or maybe Allura just left the marks so he could remember her.

And having him become a farmer seemed way too ooc.

Overall, the last season was disappointing, but it had some good moments. Acxa and Veronica with the MFE pilots (I like to think they all became really good friends). Ezor and Zethrid stayed together. Coran got to be on Altea with the Alteans from the colony. Pidge and Matt continued with their beloved science. Hunk became a master chef. Keith’s smile. And Shiro getting his happy ending. These things made me the happiest.

And even if we didn’t get everything we wanted, Voltron as a whole has given us all so much and it was an honor flying with everyone.

(Sorry if this post was all over the place, and I’ve probably repeated myself a few times. I know some people really enjoyed this season and I’m happy for them)
