The great expanse of the ocean and it's bounty of treasure was laid out before him. Behind several inches of reinforced glass he could be witness to the wonders life under the waves could offer. And as he stood before the calm waters he felt insignificant. He was a speck among the greater picture but he refused to accept it.
Palser sipped from the chilled glass in his hand. The ice cubes clicking together as the alcohol hit the back of his throat and burned on its way down to his stomach. There it settled in his gut and would help numb the pain. The silence was deafening here. The room filled from ceiling to floor with various signs of wealth and items of extravagance. Simply a flex of caste and nothing more. He didn't accumulate any of this himself but gained from previous lives lived by his ancestors before him.
He envied them. The ones long past and the ones still living among the stars. They must have some sort of freedom or feeling of purpose. While alone in a room filled with riches he only looked out into the waters that were still.
Occasionally a creature would pass by the glass. A fish. A whale. They were lovely creatures that gave him no mind. Life here was lived without set structure and there was simply the rule of eat or be eaten. Simple and pristine. But lonely.
Pacing the large expanse of the glass. Funny how, in some places a troll could look in and watch a fish pace the length of its tank with aimless goals. He was that fish now. In a tank he built himself and gazing out into the ocean that felt more like home then any other place. And soon he knew he would only glance at it one last time and never again.
A shadow would pass before the glass and all worries seemed to melt away. The massive, floppy form of his lusus came into view. It's massive body blanketing the glass as it hugged its body close. The room doing pitch black before the soft glow of smart lights kicked in. Seeing the smiling, goofy face of Mantadad gazing down at him. He was the only bit of good in the highblood's life. And he was beginning to believe that would always be true.
"Yo~ou always seem to~o kno~ow ho~ow to~o make an entrance do~on't yo~ou Dad?" Palser set his glass down on the floor while he stood face to face with the beaming manta ray. There was no way he could be so unhappy looking into a face that was always smiling, always so pleased to see him.
Pressing his forehead to the glass, the soft clink of his purple gemstone tapping the glass doesn't ruin the moment. Closing his eyes and just listening to the soft bubbling glubs of his lusus. The tune relaxing as it once lulled him to sleep as a wriggler. "I kno~ow yo~ou'll always be there fo~or me. And I wo~ont leave yo~ou behind. This planet is bro~oken, flithy and po~olluted. I'd never let yo~ou suffer like the rest o~of them."
With a heavy sigh he opened his eyes, the violet glow in them brightened. The gemstone on his forehead and matching set on his neck gave off a similar light. "Just yo~ou and me against the Universe." Turning around pressing his back to the glass. Sliding down slowly till he was sitting. His legs tucked under him and his arms crossed. "Always yo~ou and me."
