Nanaimo Bars are a traditional Canadian dessert made with chocolate, custard, and a graham cracker crust. They are no-bake and suitable for any occasion.
Ingredients: 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1/4 cup granulated sugar. 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder. 1 large egg, beaten. 1 3/4 cups graham cracker crumbs. 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut. 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened. 2 tablespoons vanilla custard powder. 2 cups powdered sugar. 2 tablespoons milk. 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter.
Instructions: Melted butter, sugar, cocoa powder, and a beaten egg should all be mixed together well in a medium-sized bowl. Add the graham cracker crumbs, coconut shreds, and nuts that have been chopped. Spread the mix out evenly in the bottom of a 9x9-inch baking dish that has been greased. Softened butter, custard powder, powdered sugar, and milk should all be mixed together in a different bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy. Cover the crust in the baking dish with the custard mix. Add the chopped chocolate and 2 tablespoons of butter to a small saucepan. Set it over low heat and stir it around until it seems smooth. Place the chocolate layer on top of the custard layer and spread it out evenly. Let the bars cool in the fridge for at least two hours before you cut them into squares and serve them.
