Hi, I just wanted to say that these costumes from Wothanburg/ Curia Vitkov are not very historically accurate and also Curia Vitkov is event dated 11-12 centuries not Great Moravia (I participated it few times). Have a nice day :)
Hello and thank you for a message!
You’re right about the event’s timeline planned by the organizers - and the era to which the site of Curia Vitkov alone is dedicated is the 12th century to be exact. The costumes are naturally not ‘historically accurate’ for this period of time, so I can see where you come from.
I know that many reenactors like to stretch the timeline and wear costumes from the earlier eras for various events, or inspired by other neighbouring areas of a similar culture (sometimes intentionally, sometimes accidentally) - like for example the women who appear at Curia Vitkov wearing the temple rings, which by 12th century were definitely no longer in use (at least according to archaeological excavations).
Therefore I’ve put an earlier timeline in the descriptions - the costumes could be actually accurate for most of the West Slavic groups from the earlier centuries, particularly around 9th or 10th centuries (thus the form of descriptions I wrote: ‘Slavic’ clothing with the accurate timeline and only location of the event mentioned). Though you might be right about the use of the name of Great Moravia that I put in the tags - I’ll look through the posts again to check where does it fit and where not.
You can compare the clothing and accessories to other materials in my archives, and various articles and photosets about the earlier Great Moravian clothing, like for example here, here, here or here, or browse carefully my sources section.
