Why microlabels are bad.

So, I am aware that if any people see this, many will not agree with me.

Here’s the thing. I am all for having a civil, calm, respectful discussion. Don’t come at me with anger, or threats, and I’ll be happy to talk with you.

Now that we’ve got that taken care of,

The reason why I think that microlabels are bad is because it leads to a whole bunch of erasure. Even some labels that are not micro, pansexual, for example, can also lead to erasure. Let me make one thing clear before I continue. I do not hate the person. I have no hate for people who identify as pan. I hate the label.

The reason why I hate the label pansexual is because many use it and say that they are genderblind. Fine! That’s how you feel and it’s completely valid! The thing that makes it not okay is that by saying you are genderblind, and identifying as pansexual, you are saying that people who are bisexual are not genderblind, and cannot be genderblind.

That is not okay.

Annother thing I have seen a lot is people using the term bi-lesbian or pan-lesbian. Both of those are very wrong and harmful. They are promoting the stereotype that bi women are just lesbians, and that lesbians can be attracted to men. Those are two very harmful things, and it leads to a lot of erasure in both communities. I am not trying to say that you can’t mainly like women, and also like people who aren’t women. The label for that is bisexual. If you are bisexual it does not mean you like both men and women equally. It means you can feel more attraction towards one, or very little attraction towards all, or any combination you could think of.

If you are bisexual and you would like to make it clear to others that you are most attracted to women, use wlw, or mlw, or nblw! These are all perfectly okay!

It is not okay to promote the use of terms and labels that cause erasure to others.
