About this blog
Pangendering is a blog that exists since September 2014 and is focused in the pangender spectrum, although you might also find material about other genders of transgender, non-binary and genderqueer community.
The idea of this blog is to gather information, imagery and personal experiences about pangender and panflux and talk about them.
If more pangender people want to join the blog to become a member, all they need to do is ask.
The blog posts will be written in english language only, since it’s a really hard work for me to translate everything. I’m very sorry for this.
Discrimination towards any groups will never be tolerated.
Just to introduce myself: my name is Cari Rez Lobo. I'm a biologist from Brazil who is a transgender non-binary person whose gender is pangender with genderflux (fluctuating from pangender to the agender spectrum, so I’m panflux). My pronouns are: they/their/them/themselves. I’m also an intersex individual.
Pangender and Panflux?
Pangender is a nonbinary and/or genderqueer gender identity. It refers to a vast and diverse multiplicity of genders in the same individual that can extend infinitely, being always within the person's own culture and life experience. This gender experience can be either simultaneously or over time.
Pangender is a multigender that is very expansive and unspecific, meaning that there are so many genders that it’s difficult or impossible to list them all. There is no maximum limit to the amount of genders. Being pangender is feeling an entire infinite gender spectrum that is possible for an individual to have. The pangender experience can go beyond the current knowledge of genders.
The Greek prefix “pan” refers to “everything” or “all”. Therefore, pangender means “having all genders it’s possible to have” and other similar definitions.
Pangender = binary genders (female and male) + known genders + unknown genders.
Pangenders can feel gender fluidity or not. For example, a pangender person can also experience genderflux, flowing from pangender to agender: pangender <-> demipangender <-> agender.
Being pangender does not require that one knows everything about all the established genders nowadays.
Omnigender is a synonym for pangender.
Pangender can be (simultaneously or over time): (1) a person who is every gender it’s possible for them to be, (2) a person who is the entire gender spectrum they can be; (3) a person who is all genders available to them, (4) a person who is an immense number of genders, (5) a person who is all genders within their own culture and life experience, (6) a person who is infinite genders within their own culture and life experience, (7) a person whose gender experience goes beyond the known genders within their own culture and life experience, (8) a person who is binary genders (female and male) + known genders + unknown genders within their own culture and life experience, (9) a person who is polygender and more genders within their own culture and life experience.
Panflux is a gender identity consisting of pangender + genderflux. Panflux can be: (1) a person who is pangender and genderflux, flowing from pangender to agender/genderless, (2) a person who is pangender and genderless at the same time.
Pangender is not the same as polygender. These are different gender identities.
----------------[ Pangender is not appropriative ] ----------------
The Greek prefix “pan” refers to “everything” or “all”. Therefore, many wrongly assume that pangender literally means “having all genders, including genders exclusive to specific cultures, neurodivergents and intersex”, but in reality it means “having all genders it’s possible to have” and other similar definitions. Just because pangender has the "pan" prefix, it doesn't automatically mean we are appropriating genders outside our own culture and life experience. We have never claimed exclusive genders.
Terms don’t always mean literally what the original prefix refers to. For example, bisexuality has the "bi" prefix (which means literally “two”), but it doesn't mean "feeling sexual attraction to only two genders", it means “feeling sexual attraction to more than one gender”. Pansexuality has the "pan" prefix, but it doesn't mean "feeling sexual attraction to literally everyone and everything", it means “feeling sexual attraction towards people regardless of their gender”.
Pangenders only identify with genders within their own culture and life experience. Pangender people only identify as the non exclusive genders as well as the exclusive genders that they meet the requirements for. They do not attempt to claim genders outside their own culture and neurotype, because that would be impossible (one would have to spend their life in all cultures) and appropriative, racist, colonialist and ableist. If a pangender is not neurodivergent, then they won’t identify as genders that are exclusive to neurodivergent people. If a pangender is not intersex, then they won’t identify as genders that are exclusive to intersex people. And so on.
Those who call themselves pangender and appropriate exclusive genders are possibly ingenuous people who do not know yet about identity appropriation or they are individuals trying to cause disruption (trolls).
It’s true that individuals who are racists, colonialists or ableists can potentially use pangender in appropriating ways, just like people of any identity could do the same. Still, that doesn’t mean every pangender is racist or colonialist. I have actually never met a pangender who claimed genders outside their own culture and life experience. It’s not correct to erase and invalidate the pangender identity because you believe it could be used in wrong ways.
Pangender is still an identity and is not limited to possible colonialist, racist or ableist individuals.
This applies to all non-binary identities, not just pangender: an individual cannot claim gender(s) outside their own culture and life experience.
What's it called when you're pretty much only attracted to androgyny and androgynous-presenting individuals? Even those who don't necessarily present as such, for instance, cis guys with insanely high cheek-bones and shaggy hair. --I'm trying to put a label on my orientation...
