This is random, but thank you SO much for your post about Shane not having a weak backhand, *way* too many people in fandom have taken it as objective fact and it's really started throwing me out of fics where it's taken completely seriously. I have no idea why, between scenario 'Shane Hollander, man who lives and breathes hockey, has ignored this deficiency in his skill set for *nearly a decade of his professional career*' and scenario 'Ilya Rozanov, known liar (particularly about Shane Hollander, and particularly about Shane Hollander's hockey) is lying about Shane Hollander's hockey', people have decided that the first scenario is the one that's accurate??? But it's starting to drive me CRAZY

i'm always trying to tell myself there are many ways to interpret characters & i think there are some ways to massage this that could possibly work for me:

shane has a slight preference -- not notably! a mild one no one could detect unless you are insane about knowing facts about shane hollander like ilya -- for getting an assist over shooting backhand when under pressure

shane had a weaker backhand, which shows up in game tape from like, 1998, and ilya has watched this footage with all four of its pixels with glee and never stopped giving shane shit about it even though shane trained himself out of it before the scouting started

shane has a great backhand but ilya has an insane one. ilya will never stop talking about the way he roofed a puck backhand past both d-men and the metros goalie's face. it's #1 in the ilya rozanov career goals highlights every time. yes, shane was on the ice for it. yes, they fucked about it after

this is secretly a joke about fingering. hollander, i am so generous, i have great hands, i open you up so well, and you, you have never once offered-- [shane throws a cushion at him. ilya keeps talking, muffled.]

I really feel like the fandom is sleeping on the Sidney Crosby Tim Hortons partnership in terms of both sponsors Shane one *million* percent has and things that Ilya would go objectively insane over. The trading cards Ilya is Totally Super Normal About! The commercials with the Nathan MacKinnon stand in who Ilya tries to stab through the screen! Soooooo many things for Ilya to be The Most Casual about.

Ohhh my friend I need to find that fic if you haven't read it already. There is such a great fic about Shane being sponsored by Tims and I have not the strength to find it at 12:30 am but PLEASE remind me tomorrow. I beg of thee That being said - okay, now I know how Ilya feels. Man - I always kinda thought he was making a big deal out of nothing, but as someone who Notp's Cros/Mac I now FULLY understand why Ilya would lose his fucking mind about shayden and also HOW BIG THE SHIP WOULD BE. Oh my god.

OH MY STARS - think of the most recent Olympic Team Canada Tim's commercial but with Ilya & Shane both on team Canada... The fucking Sport Chek commercial where a well meaning woman buy's The Hollander stick "Hollander? Is he any good?" Endless good ideas!!

"She agreed to marry you," Hecate said, in her most placid tone. "So she must think she can handle it."

"When I was nineteen, I thought I could handle being a king!" Hades half-shouted. "She's the goddess of spring! She probably needs--spring things! Like sunlight! And plants! What if she--she--Gaea, she's nineteen, what am I doing."

"Let's be honest with ourselves," Hecate said kindly, "you did not think you could handle being a king when you were nineteen. You told me you wished Zeus had made you the god of accounting so that everyone would leave you alone." She was abruptly in front of him, her lamplike eyes as wide and solemn as a child's, her lips curled into an amused smirk. She reached up and gave a firm tug to Hades' lapels, stopping him in his tracks as she adjusted his jacket. "Now," Hecate went on, stern, "what you are doing is helping Hera find a husband for a goddess she's very invested in. You are also doing me a great service, by making sure that crimson bitch knows she's not actually my boss unless she marries you, and I retain the power to fire her ass."

"Minthe isn't--"

"And," Hecate said, as if she hadn't heard him, "I've met Persephone. She's very--lively. I think she'll do just fine." She gave his shoulders a final precise tug, and then reached out and flicked Hades hard in the ear.

"Ow!"

"Don't be a baby. If you don't want to marry her," Hecate said, "we can march out of here right now. But I'm tired of listening to you panic about being a terrible person for agreeing when she asked you to marry her. So are we going to your wedding or not?"

I read your fic about Jin Zixun killing WWX at Qiongqi path (which was devastating!), and now I'm picturing JYL's reaction when they find out it wasn't even justified. She would go for his THROAT and it would be AMAZING. (It turns out that WWX and JC being murdery during the Sunshot campaign wasn't (just) because of trauma, the Jiangs are just Like That when they're avenging their loved ones. It would not end well for JZX.)

oh yeah. I mean, I don’t think Jiang Yanli would ever buy that Wei Wuxian cursed Jin Zixun, for multiple reasons beginning with Wei Wuxian’s own “if I was pissed at you I’d’ve just straight up murdered the fuck out of you” and leading up to “not sure he even matters enough for Wei Wuxian to do something that dumb.” 

but then I’ve thought about the part where it becomes clear that (as he is still cursed) he really didn’t, and other people start having suspicions about that, and Jiang Yanli is...well. she’s not feral the way that Wei Wuxian is, or directly murder-y the way Jiang Cheng is, but she is, as shown, absolutely capable of very diplomatically and gently destroying someone if she’s so inclined. 

and she would absolutely do it here. she would have Jin Zixun’s reputation in shreds. she would have his pride demolished. she would make sure that he was ostracized in society. 

she doesn’t need to kill him! the curse will do that eventually all on its own and that’s fine, she can just wreck his life before then, perfectly politely, for murdering her baby brother. 

and then he can die.

I read your post from a few days ago about how WWX, JYL and JC all were infatuated with people who would be 100% ride or die as soon as you've won them over, but they'd probably be mean about it first, and it was AMAZING. I now desperately want the AU where LWJ, JZX and WQ go to a family dinner at LP and have a collective 'oh THAT'S why you're all Like That' realization. And then the three of them quietly freak out at each other about how they're handling it.

I would also like this AU! The canon awkward family dinners are amazing, and it’s very sad that the Jiang parents died before they could inflict themselves on various significant others. I feel like there’s a really good angle for it in modern aus as well because everyone is often alive and the scope for forcing people to come to dinner is in some ways broader because no one is busy running a small nation and they might live closer together.

Hi! I recently found your fix-it fic, and I just wanted to say that I LOVE IT. Sorry if this ask is a little too spoilery, but I was wondering - are you planning on having Shiro's time in the astral plane give him any insight into how Voltron/the Black Lion works? I'm mostly asking this because I was OFFENDED that the writers had this amazing scenario where Shiro's soul was LITERALLY fused with the Black Lion's, and instead of making their bond stronger it somehow ERASED IT. Thanks again!

YES!!! We have around six chapters until we see Shiro again according to my notes/outline, but it was important to me that while the other paladins are growing with their Lions that Shiro isn’t shut out of that arc too. His time in the Astral Plane is going to be somewhat similar to when Black was showing him her memories, although this time they’re going through his together. 

So Shiro will have an active role in the Astral Plane, at least in regards to himself and Black, in addition to working through some lingering insecurities (worthiness and borrowed time), explaining like 85% of his backstory, and setting up what’s to come in his arc, powers, and his relationships <3

100% agree with your tags that LWJ never forgives JC for ANYTHING. Will he be happy if WWX gets to a better place with his brother? Yes, because it would make WWX happy and WWX deserves everything he wants. Does LWJ think that JC deserves an OUNCE of WWX's forgiveness? NOPE, and if JC ever forgets why LWJ WILL be there (with an itemized list) to remind him. Possibly he will ask Wen Ning for assistance.

Lan Wangji, on request, is...civil with his brother-in-law, once Wei Wuxian is on good enough terms (generous statement) to make it a going concern.  Which is to say, Lan Wangji speaks to Jiang Cheng when spoken to, and sometimes says more than three words in a row, if he’s feeling especially generous.  Sizhui still contrives to be around as much as possible when he knows they’ll be expected to interact, because:

A) Sizhui makes a minor specialty of translating his father’s specific brand of inscrutable in an effort to make everyone’s lives easier

B) Sizhui realized when he was nine that, for whatever reason that no one spoke about, his father wouldn’t even acknowledge Sect Leader Jiang’s existence outside of occasional comments to other people that would be completely innocuous if they weren’t so obviously targeted, and he’s been playing Hanguang-jun’s voice when faced with the Jiang sect since his first night hunt in an attempt to keep things from turning actually genuinely violent

However.

Civil is the best Lan Wangji will ever be able to offer, and even that, only as long as Jiang Cheng is not unkind to Wei Wuxian in Lan Wangji’s sight.

Really, it would be at all, but Wei Wuxian only tells Lan Wangji about fighting with his brother when Jiang Cheng is gone and Lan Wangji cares more about not upsetting his husband than about anything Jiang Cheng does, quite frankly.  So Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji have an explicitly spoken deal, which is that, as long as Lan Wangji is polite to Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian won’t ask for anything more than good manners, and as long as Jiang Cheng isn’t cruel to Wei Wuxian in front of Lan Wangji, he’ll stay polite.

Wei Wuxian knows Lan Wangji will probably never forgive his brother, for a thousand and one reasons, even after Wei Wuxian is permitted in Lotus Pier again and can sometimes get through a whole hour without fighting with Jiang Cheng.  The vast majority of Wei Wuxian regrets it--he wants the people he loves to get along, after all, and thinks that this is really a lot of anger and drama over one man who didn’t even stay dead.

...a very small part of Wei Wuxian has had precious little experience with people holding a grudge on his behalf, and it’s probably proof that he’s a selfish bastard to be glad that Lan Wangji cares about him that much, but.  That very small part of him is, in fact, glad about it.
