“Female. Frau. Schatz. Female.” Shadow muttered, throwing an arm around me. And I thought I’d wake up to silence or at the very least snoring.
Turning, I yawned, answering, “Yeah?”
He hummed, saying, “You’re fluffy.”
Okay, it’s the middle of the night, what did he take or drink? Didn’t he just get home? I just woke up and can’t go back to sleep.
“No.” He retorted, pulling me against him. “Tired, yes. I’m surprised you didn’t notice I came home later than usual.”
“Then go ta sleep.” I suggested, twining my arms around his shoulders.
“No, wanna talk to you. Cause you’re my Schatz.” He whined, his words slurring together.
Knowing I wouldn’t go to sleep anytime soon, I complied, “Why is that?”
He looked at me through half closed eyelids, muttering with a light chuckle, “You have something, I dunno what, but I must enjoy it to keep you around.”
He’s half asleep. I’m sure it means nothing, he’s just rambling.
“But I like your eyes the most. It’s cute when you get that gleam whether you’re excited or doing something entirely stupid, usually both; sometimes it’s at the same time. Also, it’s adorable when you worry about me, especially when you pout afterwards. Maybe you’re just perfect.” He said, slightly clearer this time.
Half asleep or not, I’m going to bring this up tomorrow. I hummed in agreement, hoping he’d actually fall asleep this time; I don’t need a repeat of the time he rambled on for an hour about pie. I couldn’t remember which one he was talking about by the time I fell asleep.
Scooting closer towards him, I smiled, blinking slowly. Surprisingly he’s not like this often; it’s a miracle he’s even talking this much. He’s always so quiet.
Starting to doze off, I snapped awake as his tiredness suddenly disappeared, as he said, “Schatz.”
I hummed, looking up at Shadow, now noticing our close proximity. I barely even noticed the smoke and vanilla scent; it’s so familiar now. Feeling slightly chapped lips brush against mine; I smirked, letting my eyes fall shut. I slid my hand into his, squeezing lightly; so much for a kiss in the morning like usual. Not that I minded.
Hearing the door open, I turned away from Shadow, staring at our son rubbing his eye with a tiny yawn. I’m surprised his sister wasn’t with him.
“Can I sleep with you?” Bryce asked, pushing his Eggman doll on the edge of the bed.
I’m still trying to figure out why Eggman even gave him that, weirdo. I nodded, helping him on the bed, seeing Shadow lying on his back now asleep. I smiled, watching Bryce curl up underneath his pa’s arm, throwing his small hand over Shadow’s. I never want to let this go.
