Hokshan and Toisan;
Two words that stir up nothing of far images
My youth laden with American ideals
That these lands of my ancestors
May have well been nothing more
In the mind of my child
Than some food on a takeout menu
That he would not bear his stomach to eat
Not places that became the start
Of my families long journey
To the land of gold and forgotten heritage
Cause in the foolishness of my youth
I only looked toward the immediate
My surrounding of this black and white world
As though my peoples journey took place
In an Episode of Kung fu the legend continues
With David Caradine selling off
His Ancient Chinese secret
Because it has become almost shameful
The lack of curiosity of my childhood
Now that I myself am a father
Without history but bits and pieces
Of a disaster I call 30 plus years of life
Only to hear in passing as comments
Toward my inner curiosity toward society
And it's morbid attempt to prove
My people unwelcome tourists in this land
As my mother offers me yet
Another sense of confusion toward my history
And the sorrow that I felt for others
Somehow becomes a blow to my self-worth
I can read these amazing stories of paper sons
And be amazed and empathetic toward the victims
And the decedents of the necessary atrocity
This becomes a tearing point along the stripes
Of the Flag and the land that I love so much
Because I can hear my fathers echo of his hatred
Toward these foreign invaders come to take the jobs
Of those who worked so hard to earn their place
Among a system so broken that the temporary bandages
Cannot hide that fact that lady liberty
Not only weeps with pain, but bleeds for her children
Who have become so lost in the assimilation
That so many have become drones with no past
I have taken up this struggle to find my family
Because we are more than resident foreigners
My loved ones, we are the descendents
Of those who struggled for a better life
Something far beyond your Ipods and consumerism
And our peoples history deserves to stared at in awe,
For it's glory is beset by our accomplishments
And what they have given up so that we would not need to
And almost none of my free generation can ever
Comprehend the greatness in the suffering
Of these heroes of our ancestry
