“I’m not trying to pry,” Belle said quickly. “It was just when you mentioned surprises, something made me think that…” She shook her head. “Maybe I read too much into things. Or if it’s something but something you’re not comfortable sharing…?”
Really, Belle remonstrated with herself, she wasn’t some busybody trying to find out the latest gossip! She and Ruby hadn’t spoken in years. Even if the other woman did have something to share, it wasn’t necessarily going to be with her! At least, not this soon. And maybe she was reading it wrong. Anyway, it was none of her business unless Ruby made it so. Whatever it was.
She smiled. “Sorry.”
“It’s not like that.” Ruby sighed and ran her hand through her hair. There she went running the mood and putting her big foot in her mouth. She looked around to make sure there was no one near her. Archie could get upset at her about this later. Ruby was excited and could barely contain how she felt. She leaned in closer to Belle and brought her voice down. “You’re right by the way. I.. I’m gonna be a mom Belle. I found out this morning and Archie knows and everything but we promised to keep the news just to ourselves for a bit. But I’m so bad at that because it’s something I’ve wanted for a while and I can’t help but be excited for it. But can this just stay between us? Hell. Granny doesn’t even know yet.” Ruby explained in a whisper.
