Prompt: David & Austin go hunting together on a full moon.
Characters: Austin Lewis, David Foster.
Setting: Mystic Falls Forest, Full Moon.
Somewhere, a wolf howled. In front of him, David turned around, his expression darkening at the sound. Austin smirked, stepping forward toward the other man, one hand on his holster. “Getting a little scared, Foster?” Austin asked as he neared the man. “I thought you said you were good at this.”
"I am good at this,” David said quietly. “I wouldn’t be here otherwise.”
Austin’s smile widened. “Well, isn’t that the truth.”
That was why they were all here, wasn’t it? They had survived this long- however long each of them had been in the business- because they were good at what they did. And yet the confidence would never overshadow the other emotions that always surfaced. Fear, always, always fear. It bubbled up through his stomach and his lungs and his throat, lava burning his insides. If the creature didn’t end up killing him, his own internal organs probably would.
He had survived this long.
The wolf howled again, breaking Austin from his thoughts, and he started walking rapidly. It was closer this time, the howl had been much, much louder. Leaves were crackling all over the place- the woods were full tonight. He wasn’t surprised, what with the amount of supernatural in the town.
"Alright?" he murmured, catching sight of the animal through the trees. Austin pulled his gun out of his holster, sensing David stiffen next to him. "You ready?"
"I’ve been ready for this since I got here," the other man replied. "That animal isn’t getting out of this night alive."
