Once Bitten, Twice Shy
There were just too many of them. Ahin’s breath was ragged as he ran as fast as his numb and bleeding legs would carry him. He could barely get a full breath, toxins seeped into his bloodstream as he was stung over and over again. The striking stingwing nest he’d stumbled upon was apparently not the only one in the area. He’d sliced through the first two that came his way but before he knew it another five were buzzing towards him.
He’d tried to flee, but the menacing buzzing only drew closer no matter how fast he tried to run. The stingers pierced his body repeatedly, slowing him, drugging him, crippling him. He could see buildings in the distance, the closest of which he was trying desperately to make it to before he lost consciousness. His right leg dragged behind him now, his rifle fell from his hands and his blurred vision finally went completely black.
The man collapsed into the dry grass outside of the clinic, having come so close to reaching safety. The stingwings swarmed around him for another moment before leaving him for dead and returning to their trampled nests.
