#Noriko trilogy #utena #anthy himemiya #revolutionary girl utena #parallellis #i thought of this parallel while i was doing my smiling noriko trilogy gifsets #ik nobody else will care about this but sorry I’m going insane #it’s like #anthy being an embodiment of such a wide variety of female archetypes and ending up trapped by others perceptions of her #and then noriko #or rather the three norikos #all symbolising the ubiquitous ‘everywoman’ in postwar japan #but both of them PARTICULARLY being trapped and defined by their role within the family and their status as sister/daughter #and both of them almost maintaining those prisons #and both of them building their identities around these roles because they’ve never been allowed to be anyone else and they don’t know HOW #trapped by social perceptions and expectations and constantly sacrificing themselves to try and appease the people around them #and both of them plastering on that constant smile as a defence against the outside world #because if they stop smiling then what will happen?
