It’s neat to see how certain experiences persist even as we talk about them and frame them differently. Yes yes yes!! I love her so much, it’s really neat to see how completely she’s grown on me and how important she is. The way that she was set up like a comic relief character and has become so deep and important without fully losing the comic absurdity? It’s incredible. I love her. I root for her too!!!

I do think that he’s been manipulating her to only care for him, to depend on him. It’s bizarre to consider that they were adopted, because I’ve always had the impression Nanami was a bit of an un-favourite child, like their parents paid a lot more attention to Touga than to her and that that fed in to her grasping for affection, but then you expect that if they were adopted the parents wanted them both, right...? Or maybe that’s too optimistic of me.

I’m usually very sympathetic with kids/teens too, but in the case of Touga I just haven’t seen any evidence of him caring for them, you know? He comes off as a conscious manipulator who’s only in it for the End of the World. Like I say, I’m keeping my eyes open, and we’ll see how it goes for the rest of the show.

Yeah, I do think her affection for him was coloured sexual/romantic because of societal expectations that That’s How Girls Feel About Boys-- and also by the weird sexual overtones to all his manipulations-- but that she hadn’t really thought through what that meant. I totally agree that that’s why walking in on them was such a personal shock to her; she was confronted with the reality of what she thought she wanted. It took me a bit to realize that she hadn’t parsed the lack of consent, but having finished the episode I do agree with you there too. I’m glad she’s breaking away. I wish her all the best.

So with their respective powers and without their respective spirits, and potentially considering the corrupting influence they may have… that’s 7/16 of the students.

Puzzle: This one’s an interesting one because aside from the ‘wins games/general judgment’ aspect, it comes with a wish and a general ‘power of unity’ which is vague AF. It’s also incredibly OP. So naturally I’m going to give it to…. Kaede. I considered Shuichi because quiet goth kid who struggles making friends parallels but, nah. Strength in unity really works for Kaede! if it’s not already solved though she’s SoL Kaito would be a good back-up choice the same way Jou wore the puzzle once oof

Rod: I feel like Gonta is one of the only people I would trust with the Rod lmao consider it controls people’s minds and has a hidden knife. Personality-wise it would fit well with Kokichi though, and if he’s not in Chapter 4-5 mode he probably wouldn’t cause too much trouble with it. The items tend to go with the person its ability suits the most, and ‘controlling people’ fits pretty neatly with the Ultimate Supreme Leader.

Eye: So, who’s losing an eye for this one?

Kirumi would actually be an interesting choice for mind-reading. Putting aside from the aesthetic (silver-haired bangs obscuring the left eye already makes it work for her tbh), it would work well for talent. I can see her using it exclusively to help improve her already impeccable service. Can you imagine the Ultimate Maid who can read your mind and know what you need before you even open your mouth to request it?

Tauk/Necklace: Controversial choice maybe, but Korekiyo would be interesting. Korekiyo would get a lot of use out of it for the anthropological value of being able to visit the past alone. M-Maybe it would distract him from his side hobby? well it’s not like it’s the first time the items have belonged to murderers or even shown the owner visions of a dead lover… y i k e s

Scales: I’m leaning towards Shuichi. He often ended up being the arbiter in the trials, so the ‘weighing of the heart’ would work well for him. Better, even, because despite his best efforts, it’s still something he had trouble with, and it would help round him out. It also compliments his talent incredibly well. Tenko was a choice too, considering she already has elements of that in her neo-aikido…. I’d just be a little worried about her bias. 8′)

Key/Ankh: You know what? I think I’m giving the key to Kaito. It unlocks people’s minds and hearts and gives the wielder the power to rearrange things at will, including brainwashing if possible. The chances of him using it for the latter is incredibly low, while the possibility of him at most trying to ‘rearrange’ things with the person’s consent to help them be the best person they can be is much higher. More importantly, it really complements the way he can get an emotional read on people!

Ring: I saved it for last because it’s my fave On the one hand, it’s an incredibly corrupting force that is most famously wielded by a DnD nerd who masqueraded as a friend and eventually ended up as the big bad while opposing the ‘good guys’ in a fictionalized setting of their own design that was presented as the truth/the real world when it really wasn’t. On the other hand, putting the item that excels at finding things and works well as a dousing rod should probably sit in the hands of someone who is actively searching for things or people and can withstand its influence.

So obviously the correct choice is that Rantaro had the Ring at one point before being murdered pretty quickly by Tsumugi who stole it and used it for her own design because fiction imitates fiction, whoops.
