General Marc and Nathaniel Headcanons/Random Shit I made up part 1: Family headcanons and shit
(I am really obsessed with the gradient words. I might just use them for everything.)
Tiniest update before I get into this: I am currently testing negative for COVID and don't have symptoms (yet), but to be on the safe side because I share a room with my brother, I'm staying at home. Feeling fine so far, but will update if anything changes!
I decided to throw out these headcanons and possibly make a series of this as some supplemental material/a break from the bummer that is Eraser so far. I might add more depending on how long this marcaniel bug sticks and depending on if I come up with/pick up on other things I think apply to Marc and Nath. Maybe the other characters, too, considering my fondness for Miraculous despite some of my problems with it is returning.
This little "installment" is going to be general family headcanons, maybe some of how they interact with each other/in tandem with each other.
Some of these will be based on my own experiences that I'm most definitely projecting onto these guys, others are things that I completely pulled out of my ass, some might be observations others have made as well. Feel free to tell me if something doesn't sound right (in terms of morality or if there is a topic I am not handling properly or with any kind of sensitivity).
Also, sorry for flooding the tag with my obnoxious garbage - I just really love these two a lot! The Ruler (and the new season as a whole) was one of the reasons I got out of my massive writing slump back last Fall. I just want to have fun with them before the next thing comes along and takes over my brain.

Nathaniel/The Kurtzbergs
-> Nathaniel is an only child, but I like to think his mom has a couple of sisters (I think like 2-3 other siblings max), and his dad maybe has a brother or two, so he has a couple of cousins that come by and visit from time to time, mostly during holidays.
-> He gets along with most of them just fine. Before, he would just sit in a corner or on the couch while everyone else was around, sort of barely talking to them and either drawing or on his phone, but nowadays, he's grown closer to some of them and actually makes conversation with them, talking about his comics and his friends (and Marc. A lot.)
->Shirel's side of the family, specifically her mom, is the reason she looks down on other forms of art/her general attitude. Her family did not grow up rich, and her mom had very high expectations of her children to achieve great things, and not rely on others for their success (her parents are still unhappily married, for anyone asking).
->Shirel was the only child in their family who went to study something in the arts. She has an appreciation for fine arts, and I like to think she wanted to go into another medium, like painting, or just regular sketching, but ultimately landed on architecture since it was the most likely to get her a job and seemed to be the most prestigious option out of the catalog of art majors at the times.
->She carries those high expectations and that feeling of inadequacy with her (especially since her own mother still makes snide remarks/backhanded compliments about her career), and projects that onto Nathaniel a lot, and sometimes she projects that onto her husband as well.
->Aton Kurtzberg, for the sake of this post, and because of the fact that the show never specified what kind of artist/medium he is/does, is a commercial artist. He does a lot of billboard advertisements and even did some commissions for the Agreste brand a handful of times.
-> His parents were kind of whatever about a lot of things, so they didn't have really strong qualms about him going to school for art. It was mainly because of teachers/advisors trying to persuade him away from pursuing something in the arts.
-> He and his family did well for themselves. They weren't rich, but they did/do live comfortably.
-> Sometimes when she's upset (often about work or her mother), Shirel will make snide remarks about how Aton is coasting with his caring/somewhat accusing him that he doesn't really have passion for what he does like she does. Basically, trying to say that his art is just barely above comics and other "childish" art forms like comic books.
-> She, unsurprisingly, is pretty bad at apologizing for this ^ but for a lot of hurtful things she does in general. Not something she grew up with herself.
-> Just to clarify, this isn't meant to act as an excuse for how they behave/treat others/Nath, these are just made to paint a picture of why they are the way they are.
->That being said, pre-Ruler, they actually thought they were helping Nath with how they were treating him/things they would say.
->Since Shirel grew up with traditional values and constant critique thrown her way, she thought that would whip Nathaniel into shape and finally get him to consider more 'serious' forms of art and choices in partners (i.e., not guys).
->Meanwhile, Aton would much more lightly persuade him from certain choices, sometimes making "jokes" out of certain things in an attempt to keep things light. He also kind of victim-blames Nath for certain things (as seen when Shirel found and shredded the manuscript, where he reaffirmed his stance that Nath and Marc's comic was "not something people wanted to see"). He thinks that by doing this and pointing out ways Nath could do things differently instead of calling out Shirel when she is genuinely out of line, he thinks it will avoid the conflict/friction between the two. (Spoilers: It obviously didn't. I'm thinking of writing a fic/character study on him.) This applies to his feelings/the way he handled Nath when he was showing feelings for guys.
->Nathaniel doesn't open up to his parents because of it. He stopped telling them about his day or the issues he had at school to avoid feeling worse. If he did, they were short, one-word answers of the most basic information.
->Shirel and her sisters often have competitions in the kitchen of how passive-aggressive they could be to one another, always trying to one-up each other based on where they are in life (they have always been in competition with each other).
->Aton's family comes around sometimes, but his parents aren't around as frequently. They figure since all of their kids are adults, they don't need to be around and spend their time traveling. They haven't seen Nath since he was around 6-7? And they send him gifts for children because they think he's still young.
-> Some of his cousins are definitely gay, or definitely not as straight as they think they are.
-> The cousins who know they're gay helped Nath a lot when he first started developing feelings for guys, particularly Marc (I like to think Marc is his first guy crush).
-> His other cousins are kind of snooty like their moms/parents, also commenting on how Nath makes "cringe" fanfic comics of his crushes and the superheroes of Paris. He locks his room whenever they're over and hangs out with his other, nicer cousins.
->After the events of The Ruler, Nath's parents have been trying to get to know Nath better and understand how to be better parents and close the rift between them. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and Nath still has a heavy hesitancy trying to let them in because he expects them to only change enough/for a certain amount of time, so Nath can stop complaining, and then go back to the way they were.
->Shirel gets frustrated when it seems like Nath is "being difficult" and not seeing her efforts. Sometimes Aton does too, but he gets more of a sad, kicked puppy kind of attitude.
->Neither of them is really patient enough to understand that Nath won't forgive or trust them overnight.
-> Still, they are sort of making an effort to understand and get to know the real Nath and fix their relationship.
->They stumble a lot, though. Like, stumbling down a flight of stairs kind of stumbling.
Marc/The Anciels
->Marc is also an only child!
->Mom has fertility issues, and Marc was their rainbow baby (quite literally). And they love him very much.
-> Until we get their actual names, for now, I'm calling his mother April and his dad Alexandre to make things easier.
-> April has a sister who lives and works on a farm near their parents' farm. Their parents raise livestock, while her sister (calling her Esme), and her husband grow crops.
->Alexandre has a sister as well, Margot. She's a lesbian. Their mother (Marc's paternal grandmother) was mostly supportive. It took her a hot minute to fully come around and be as supportive as she is now, since she was brought up in an age where 'that wasn't a thing' or looked at as deviant or perverted behavior. She later understood that that wasn't the case, seeing it as just normal love, just in a form she was unfamiliar with.
->Their father on the other hand...
-> He was not so pleased. Like at all.
-> He was pretty homophobic. So was his dad (Marc's great-grandfather), who lived with them at the time. They kicked Margot out a bunch of times, but she'd only be gone a few hours and then her mom would let her back in.
->They finally drove her out at 18. Alexandre's mother and Alexandre picked up work to help her pay for college after his father vehemently refused to have anything to do with Margot and refused to pay for her tuition for university.
->Margot got a job so they would stop working, and she later moved to the city. She tried to visit as much as possible, but Alexandre's father and grandfather would always chase her or cuss her out. She never let that keep her away from her family.
->That was a lot of set up. My bad.
->Regarding Marc, Marc's parents and their relationship:
->Marc's parents are very empathetic and kind people who met and fell in love in college in Alexandre's hometown. For April, it's just in her nature. She was friends with all of her neighbors because they were kind and she saw that kindness repaid with offering to help whenever her parents were sick or needed an extra hand on the farm, or free fresh fruits or farming equipment to borrow when they broke down. So she, in turn, is kind to everyone. Sometimes, that led/leads to her getting walked over, but she develops a bit of backbone when she moves to Paris with her husband and son. Alexandre saw how heartless his father and grandfather were to Margot, someone whom they were supposed to love unconditionally, and he didn't want to be a part of that vitriol, especially since his older sister was his biggest supporter when it came to him and his dreams. So, they took what they had, whatever kindness and love and whatever else they took from their childhoods, and did their best to raise Marc.
->They were quick to accept Marc's more feminine hobbies, like wanting to try to wear makeup or read romance novels, and were there and ready when he worked up the courage to come out as gay.
-> Unfortunately, they weren't able to ensure a safe environment for him in their conservative small town.
->Instead of pursuing their dreams/creative endeavors (which are TBA right now while I think of something), they got regular jobs, April is a secretary, and Alexandre is an accountant, but he also has a bit of a background in construction, so he can do both. But even those jobs couldn't keep bills paid in their town in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, so they had trouble looking for an out for all of them without jeopardizing their already shaky finances and possibly putting them out on the streets the second they got to Paris.
-> However, when Marc's bullying hit a fever pitch and he was literally miserable, they said 'fuck it', found the cheapest 2-bedroom apartment in Paris, packed their shit, and dipped within 3 days.
->Whatever money they had left over from paying rent either went to Marc's school or his brief stint in therapy.
-> Yes, Marc went to therapy briefly, though he lied/downplayed things a lot. This was mainly out of guilt for putting his parents in a tough spot, both in their hometown (even though he was just existing and people were making him feel terrible about himself) and in Paris (for putting them in super bad financial straits).
-> So he just tried to pretend he was better than he was so he could stop.
-> Marc is bad at hiding the fact that he isn't okay, but he had to stop therapy anyhow because his parents were unable to afford it - it's something they feel really guilty about.
->Not trying to paint them as perfect or the best parents ever here. Obviously, nobody's 100% perfect or has everything figured out, and I'll probably expand on that in the next part.
-> It's just that a. Miraculous (and real life) already has a ton of crappy parents left and right, and I feel like I need to sort of balance it out somehow, and b. this post is getting long as shit and it's late.
(parental headcanon request) I would love to hear your take on how Eda and Raine would address having an adopted child with PTSD. I can't speak for everyone, but the symptoms I've experienced include re-experiencing past emotional pain, frequent nightmares, somatization (feeling emotional pain as physical pain e.g. migraines), and poor self-image (feeling sub-human, cursed, toxic, etc). I would especially love to hear how you think they would reassure their child that their presence is
Raine
If you wake up from a nightmare, Raine's humming to soothe you.
Also, they like to remind you that they're proud of you for surviving so much.
I headcanon physical touch to be one of their love languages, so they often try and hug you while they reassure you that your presence is wanted.
If you're not the hugest fan of touch, they like to do small acts to remind you that you are loved.
Their voice is soothing and they knows a lot of breathing techniques.
Eda
Listen, Eda may not be the most emotional witch, but she'll be damned if you feel low. She makes it a habit to ask if you're feeling okay.
She's also had her fair share of nightmares, so she definitely knows how to identify when you're having them and will be by your side to soothe you.
If you have a really bad day, you get to skip school and spend the day with Eda.
Also, she’s really good with keeping you grounded during flashbacks, especially with the color grounding exercise.

Donquixote Doflamingo
🧶Pregnancy🧶
🧶 It was one of the last things he expected to hear from his wife, honestly he had never considered something as ambitious or simple as settling and having kids. Even though {Name} is his wife, she contends with the madness of Doflamingo's lifestyle. Thanks to that turbulence, the thought of children was never actually considered. So when {Name} told him the news, out of the blue - Doflamingo was taken aback... and left speechless.
🧶 Visibly surprised about hearing it, not in a bad way...in more of a "What do I do now?" Kind of way. Though the prospect of having a child actually seems nice to Doflamingo - the even more surprising part of the whole situation was the comforting idea of normality he felt from his thoughts.
🧶 Incredibly overprotective ever since he heard the news and a bit controlling in the way Doflamingo strictly watches where she goes. Mostly to prevent her from getting into danger, once again taking his kind of lifestyle into consideration, Doflamingo felt that he could never be too careful when it came to {Name}.
🧶 Very doting on {Name} and can be quite sweet especially when she is going through some of the things like morning sickness, Doflamingo is also quite a worrywart everytime {Name} complains about feeling sick or an ache of some sort.
🧶 {Name} often found Doflamingo reading one of the five million parenting and child rearing books he purchased, while simultaneously trying to convince him not to stress buy excessive amounts of baby stuff as he had been doing...
🧶Parental🧶
🧶 The first time he laid eyes on his child, there was some unimaginable swell of an unfamiliar emotion. Some kind of sense of unbridled happiness paired with a pride of a greater magnitude, and some strong wave of what Doflamingo could only call love for both his child and for his wife.
🧶 Completely nervous at first, since he wasn't sure how to act around them. Doflamingo tried multiple times to reassure himself with thought of "I have read about this, I can handle it" though he grew extremely flustered when faced with the real thing.
🧶 Doflamingo is a complete softy for his child. Its obvious in the way, that even if he is in a terrible mood, they always cheer him up.
🧶 {Name} occasionally reminds Doflamingo that he cannot go so crazy as to meet every whim or the potential of turning their child into a spoiled brat might come to be. Though Doflamingo can't help it, he loves seeing them so happy.
🧶 {Name} sometimes grows a bit frustrated since Doflamingo's occasional obstinate attitude was definitely passed on and sometimes in their little schemes, Doflamingo will act as a partner in crime to his child's misbehaviour.
Rob Lucci
🐆Pregnancy 🐆
🐆 {Name} was in the midst of contemplating how she would tell Lucci about her being pregnant, when Lucci had asked her outright. Stating that he figured it might have been the case considering the way she was acting as of late, upon hearing the confirmation Lucci seemed to be surprised, but not shocked as he already considered this might be the case.
🐆 It invoked a lot of thoughts in Lucci, which left him silent in response, which slighty stressed {Name} out, seeing how she was unable to decipher his thoughts towards it. Lucci was happy in his own way, considering the fact his thoughts were orientated around preparation and questions both on how to care for his pregnant wife and eventually, his child.
🐆 Was very particular about keeping {Name} at home and resting, not allowing her to do anything he deemed as strenuous and doted on her a lot. {Name} couldn't deny that she enjoyed the extra attention from him, especially seeing him so uncharacteristically honest with his feelings.
🐆 Tries not to be overbearing but can't help but be the first one to call the doctor for every tiny suspicion that something is wrong. Easily grows stressed when {Name} is feeling under the weather or having a bout of morning sickness.
🐆 Lucci loves having his hands on the baby bump and feeling all the movements, finding it very soothing to know that their little one is already so energetic. (Unconsciously has a habit of purring during this time as well)
🐆Parental🐆
🐆 Despite Lucci's usual unwavering confidence, he was visibly rattled and nervous the first time he got the chance to hold his baby. Instantly feeling that bond intensify. {Name} had to calm Lucci down everytime someone tried to take the baby from him, seeing how Lucci only allowed himself or {Name} to hold them.
🐆 People can see such a drastic difference in Lucci's demeanor, the way he treats everyone else with a kind of harsh coldness and the way he instantly turns seemingly gentler and more affectionate to his wife and child.
🐆 Absolutely loves the fact he has been there for a lot of key moments, such as the first words and first steps. Notably Lucci was the biggest cheerleader for them.
🐆 Can be way too overprotective and over reacts to even small things... on one occasion when seeing a slight scrape on his child's knee from being pushed by another child, {Name} had to stop Lucci from going complete overkill and trying to track down the brat that hurt them.
🐆 The amount of times {Name} comes home to see Lucci and their little one indulging in the occasional catnap, of course when they can't sleep at night due to that nap Lucci is the one who stays up.

Soft and super gentle hugs are Elrond's speciality!
He gives amazing hugs! Because he didn't grow up with a lot of physical affection, he wants his kids to have what he didn't/couldn't
Him and Celebrian have a tradition where they make a huge family/christmas bed in his chambers on the floor and everyone joins in the super fluffy nest where they all take turns to tell stories
Cirdan
He can be kind of aloof as a father but he tries really hard to make his kids feel loved in other ways, he scared of getting attached, and this is connected with how he raised Gil-Galad as his own and how Círdan was one of the last people to talk with him before his death
He's scared of something happening to his kids, but whereas Elrond's more proactive in trying to prevent it, Círdan feels frozen. All his life he's seen good people be killed and fucking continents sunk and Valar rampage and kill - and he knows there wasn't anything he could've done about any of it, but that doesn't make the survivors guilt any better.
Some days, he smells of old wet wood and sand. Other days, of iron and grief.
He loves doing woodwork with his kiddo, even if they're just whacking away at a piece of driftwood with a toy hammer
He loves holding his kid's hand! Whether it's in the market or just in the halls of his house, he loves having that physical link to them.

Trucy’s a very perceptive little lady and could read her father’s interest in you right from the start.
She likes you a lot, so of course she’s going to be hoping that the two of you get together! And doing what she can to help nudge the two of you closer together.
It’s already not uncommon for her to joke with him about finding her a new mommy, but after you enter the picture she’s more likely to do so after he’s just spent some time with you. She’s not subtle.
And she’s bold so you can expect to witness some of these jokes for yourself, too, once you and Phoenix get closer.
She comes to view you as a maternal figure very early on into your relationship with her father.
She kind of cleaves to you, because she never really knew her mother. It fills a void in her life. She’s very self-reliant and mature beyond her years, so it’s not exactly a typical parental relationship.
While she may cling to you early on, it takes a lot longer to build up enough trust that you’re here to stay for her to show her more vulnerable side to you.
Her default parental term for you is going to be ‘Mommy’ but she’ll call you by any term you prefer if you just ask her!
Trucy lives to impress you, she loves showing off her tricks for you and making you smile. She always goes a bit harder during her magic shows when she knows you’re in the audience.
May sometimes ask you to be her assistant if you’d be comfortable with that! She’s laxer with you than she is with Apollo or Athena, but she still has Expectations.
Slowly but surely, over the course of your relationship with Phoenix, your home becomes more and more of a chaotic mess in spite of your best efforts.
A lot of her magic tricks end up in your home... and in your car. Everywhere, basically. You can try to contain them, but somehow they always manage to get everywhere, as if by magic.
Weekly movie nights are absolutely a thing. Each of you take turns choosing movies and settling down on the sofa, all sharing a blanket and a bowl of popcorn with Trucy sat in-between you and Phoenix.
Sometimes you may end up putting it on and playing a board or card game instead. Usually something like LIFE, UNO, or Monopoly depending on what you’re into.
Trucy is ridiculously good at board games and card games, her luck is unparalleled. She’s always a very good sport if you or Phoenix do manage to beat her for once, but she will tease both of you if you lose. It’s all very good natured, her father and her just really have that dynamic.
Please give her all the hugs. This is non-negotiable. She will hug you if you don’t. Her and Phoenix are both hugging machines and family hugs are going to be commonplace.
She loves being sandwiched between you and her father, it’s just... so nice to have two wonderful parents? She may tear up from her happiness at times.
Bonus points if you’re strong and can pick her up and spin her around, even as she gets older. She loves it so much??? Phoenix will do it sometimes, too.
She loves learning things from you, if you have any hobbies she’s absolutely going to want to learn everything about it from you! Along with doing the activity together.
If it’s something like a yarn art hobby, she’s going to put all her time and effort into making you all matching scarves and then sweaters. She starts with her own so it’ll be the wonkiest, because she wants the ones she gives to you and Phoenix to be the best they can be.
Cooking meals together as a family is also very common, especially before Phoenix gets his attorney’s badge back. It’s a tradition that’s near and dear to her heart.
She’ll often do magic tricks for you and make ingredients or things you no longer need disappear in her magic panties.
They will absolutely start a flour fight and derail whatever it is you’re making for a solid chunk of time. It happens every time and they will drag you into their chaos.
Phoenix often looks at the two of you interacting with a delighted, loving smile on his face. It makes him so happy that you love Trucy as much as he does and view her as your own daughter.
He was honestly pretty anxious about whether or not his single father status would break any romantic interest you had in him, he can’t help but feel a bit silly about it in retrospect whenever he watches the two of you act so close together.
He just loves you both so much??? You’re both the light for him in his darkest times and help keep him going. He’s incredibly doting and is always sure to make time for you both as a result.
Honestly, she loves you just as much as you love her! And she’d do anything to put a smile on your face. You’re a very close-knit family and everything she ever wanted in her parents.

Ok so some newly parents Kiane headcanons:
- Their first babies are born earlier than expected. Luckily the Sins had a reunion in the forest so everyone was there to help. - The giant pregnancy takes longer than human pregnancy but their babies born 2 months premature were teeny tiny anyway (it was hard to believe their mom is actually a real giantess). They were too small for regular newborn clothes so King had to make new ones for them. He snuggled them into his old hoodie before that. - King and Diane didn’t even have the names prepared. - The first weeks and month were really hectic and hard for both King and Diane.- King would be scared to touch the babies at first. He was worried how he will handle regular sized babies and the idea of holding mini version of babies just frightens him. Luckily they grow into proper size fast. - Oberon was a crybaby from the start. He wanted to be hold and cuddled and he would cry for hours if he needed attention. Titania was a more relaxed baby but more fierce too. She would only cry when she needed something. - The babies are really enchanted with the babies but they kinda fail to understand where did these strange creatures who only cry and do nothing come from and why is their strong and mighty king all over them. Most of the fairies have never seen a baby so they would come again and again to ask King about them or just stare at the babies.
When his s/o first hears of his s/o’s pregnancy, he freaks out; once he calms down, he’s noticeably both scared and excited about becoming a father
He maintains a calm composure throughout the pregnancy, but when the time comes for the baby to come, he freaks out again.Jittery and nervous, unable to sit still, never leaving his s/o’s side
When his child is placed in his arms for the first time, he’s in awe at how beautiful she is; she’s so fragile and tiny, with rosy cheeks, wisps of light green hair on her head, and when she opened her eyes to reveal the same eye color of her mother’s he can’t help but get emotional
He’s a nervous wreck, the first few months. Is he holding her in the right position? Is he being a little too rough? How will he know if she’s hungry? Thousands of questions flood through his head as he worries of not being a good father, but is calmed down by his s/o. He gets the hang of it soon enough.
He adores spending every waking moment with her; he’ll rock her to sleep, he’s there to hold her when she has nightmares, or tell her any kind of stories. He’s basically wrapped around her finger, His s/o can’t contain her laughter when she sees Ithnan with his hair done up in pigtails and make up on his face, due to their giggling bundle of joy
He’s a little bit on the strict side; not too strict, but he can be a little too overprotective when it comes to certain things, but it’s only because he wants the best for her.
When she’s old enough to be interested in boys, he can just feels the world collapse around him. His s/o has to comfort him when he cries, in utter denial that his little girl is growing up
Setta
Upon discovering the news of his s/o’s pregnancy, Setta is in a state of shock; the fact that he would soon be a father just seemed so unreal, but he couldn’t be any more happier.
Like his brother, Setta would would be calm and level-headed during the course of the pregnancy. But the moment her water breaks, he could feel nervousness swell within him, and grows frantic trying to juggle different tasks at once.
But every feeling of nervousness immediately drifts away, the moment he hears his daughter’s first cry, and when she’s placed in his arms it’s love at first sight and he can’t tear his eyes away from her

The parental instincts are strong with this one. It’s like a sixth sense for him; he automatically knows when she’s hungry, or tired or upset; and he automatically knows what to do to soothe her.
These two are practically inseparable; this little girl is a definite daddy’s girl, and whatever she wants she’ll get. She wants something sweet? He’ll bake her a plate of cookies. She wants to play dress up? He’ll retort to stealing his s/o’s clothes. She wants a story? A million different ideas flood through his head, and he asks what she has in mind.
