Do you think Bella would be different if she was raised by Charlie instead of Rene? With Rene she had to be "the adult one" as she puts it so I think it could have been better for her in some ways.
I think it’s quite possible that her Parenting Child issues did cause a backlash into childishness over the course of the Saga. It was the first time that she was really able to relax about some of the responsibilities she’d always carried for Reneé, and then she found a sparkling boyfriend and his amazing family who liked nothing better than to pamper, protect, and take care of her. And having Big Things to worry about does tend to make the best of us drop the ball on the smaller things.
If she had stayed with Charlie all along (ignoring the whole timeline issue of meeting Edward), it’s possible she would have handled the whole thing with a bit more maturity. On the other hand, having less responsibility all along might have led to her immaturity being even more of an issue. Bella’s sense of responsibility is the type that shines under real pressure, so either way let’s hope that as she “ages” that’ll bleed over into her everyday life and relationships.
