This week is 'Parks Week'. I know some people who might spend a whole year and never visit a nature reserve. Insanity if you ask me! Our parks help us realise how much our physical and mental well-being continues to depend on healthy and enriching affiliations with the natural world. Conserving nature through the presence of national parks renders our lives more attractive, more wondrous, more worthwhile. Our parks represent a tangible act of redemption for having jeopardised so much of creation. When we impoverish the natural world, we reduce our potential for physical, material, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth and well-being. We diminish the possibilities for individual and collective development. A life of meaning and value depends on the richness of our connections with the natural world. We achieve our fullest humanity by celebrating our widest and deepest dependence on nature and life. Australia is projected to double it's population in the next 50 years. Our natural biospheres are already threatened by the putrid the breeding machines that are human beings. An ideal concept of harmonization comes to mind; to double the area of our parks in the next decade, or better yet, take Edward O. Wilson's proposal and dedicate half the surface of the Earth to nature. Visit a park, you'll feel what I'm talking about. -- #parksweek #parks #parksaustralia #parksvictoria #nationalpark #naturereserve #edwardowilson #biosphere #nature #naturalworld #biophilia #environmentalism #environment #earth #planetearth #ecology #ecologicallimits
