florence is smiling, just like florence always seems to be smiling. it’s how she copes, or so it seems — soap may have been the best thing ever to happen to huxley’s workers, but florence has the sense to try & rely on another coping mechanism. so she just tells herself just not to think about it, & she goes through day after painful day with a smile plastered on her face. then felix tells her to fuck off.
it’s kinda funny, actually, but not the sort of funny that’d make a sane person laugh. it’s just amusing, in a morbid sense, the way that he acts superior to her when she knows a truth he doesn’t. & yet, here she is ... trying, in genuine, to get along with him. she’s an agreeable person, or so she likes to think — she’s a more pleasant person to be around than bennett, at the very least. ( they may be friends, but he doesn’t have the best attitude ! ) for a moment, florence considers giving up & leaving, but she swiftly decides against it. just because she’s not impossible doesn’t mean she can’t be stubborn, & she tries her best to channel an ox as she leans against the counter of felix’s lab. ( it’s pretty unfair that he gets an entire lab to himself, but it’s not florence’s place to say that, even now. ) ❝ but i’ve barely been here ! ❞ she complains instead, confirming that she’s planted in place for now with a little pout that she hopes is charming. ❝ can’t i just hang out while you work ? your auntie florence is a scientist, too, y’know ! ❞
