word transfiguration: rather than relying on set incantations, this class teaches students to channel transfiguration through the shapes and images of their own words

charms of irony: this is a history course on the history of charms – it focuses on how french charms and charm incantations have been influenced by the profound shifts in french politics and culture

charm enchantments: designed to fool with delight, these various spells help create an inviting illusion or a warm feeling that often tricks muggles into telling you all sorts of interesting secrets … certainly makes for good writing inspiration, and sometimes you even learn something new!

worst classes:

etiquette dueling: a form of dueling that strictly adheres to who can out-polite the other in the most pretentious way. certain spells and routes must be taken; the duel ends when one of the duelists fails to adhere to code, and the winner is allowed to issue the loser with a dare

flower divination: an obscure class that centers around counting petals to determine the outcome of a yes/no question. each type of question requires a special type of flower, and how you pluck the flower reveals an answer you weren’t looking for

elective courses:

cloak-crafting: a course designed to teach students how to create camouflages and covers – so both cloaking devices/spells and also warming items/charms

exploratory flying: like traditional broom-racing, except in more rugged/natural terrain and through thicker forests

extracurricular activities:

underground dueling: beauxbatons dismantled its dueling club in the 1940s on account of the concern that students may use this skill to stir up trouble in wartime; however, beauxbatons students still meet in secret to spar and trade spells

beauxbatons debate team: join the beauxbatons debate team in debating with other wizarding institutes’ teams about contentious, controversial issues in the wizarding world

beauxbatons writing club: students compose their own novels, poems, dissertations, and manifestos here, where other students help edit and give feedback on one another’s work

favourite haunts:

the wishing well: a beautiful fountain located in the centre of the beauxbatons maze. carved out of pure white marble, it gracefully depicts various scenes in french magical history in a classic rococo style. they say, if you throw a gold coin into it, it will grant you special skill in charms. however, just sitting next to it and listening to the water gurgling is nice when one is reading or writing eassays

the library of silver: one of the largest libraries in the beauxbatons chateau, it is known as the library of silver because its walls are covered in silvered mirrors, looking out to the floor-to-ceiling windows on the opposite walls. it makes the library seem like it’s floating in the sky, and is a popular location for doing astronomy homework

there is a french saying that goes, ‘qui n’avance pas, recule.’ it echoes in your mind like light reflecting off mirrors, and the brightness and intensity is at once almost unbearable. you look at the world before you, and suddenly your silken uniform feels heavy, and your heart is full of disappointment and despondency. is this really what we have come to, as a species?

you could sit within the walls of beauxbatons, retreat to a life of scholarship within its green hedges and edged by its babbling brooks, but no. no. you pick up your wand and spin it between your fingers, and it begins to feel more like a dagger.

joan of arc burned at the stake for france as a witch, and you are willing to do the same. you are willing to let that magic set you ablaze and set the old world on fire, and to nurse new beginnings from the ashes. this is the land of revolutionaries, a restless nation, evolution in the form of a country. it has been stagnant for too long; and you are ready to shake it up. bring it on.
