Battlewrights: Couch Multiplayer Experience Returns
Battlewrights is a fast-paced 4-player local party brawler game built for chaos on Steam Deck and Linux beside Windows PC. All thanks to the creative spark of developer Florian Malogajski. Due to find its way onto Steam soon. Alright, gather ‘round. You know that golden age of couch multiplayer, when you’d sit shoulder to shoulder with your friends, controllers in hand, ready to laugh, yell, and occasionally throw shade (or the controller)? Yeah, those days. Well, they’re back, bringing native support.
In fact, as I'm using Godot to build my game, Linux support is almost a no-brainer.
The plan is to release the Linux version alongside the Windows version this December! That said, Florian has not officially added support to the Steam page yet. Simply due to him wanting to be sure everything runs smoothly first. So far, there is only a quick native test on his Steam Deck, it worked. That also means more thorough testing. Rest assured, native support is definitely in the pipeline, and Florian Malogajski will keep everyone updated as things progress.
Battlewrights Trailer
Solo developer Florian Malogajski has cooked up something wild, and it’s coming this December. It’s called Battlewrights, and it’s a 4-player local party brawler design is equal parts hilarious, brutal, and friendship-destroying, in the best way possible. Here’s the magic: this title keeps things deceptively simple. One button throws your weapon, the same button recalls it. That’s it. No complicated combos, no move lists longer than your Steam backlog. But don’t get too comfortable, once you’ve got the basics down, Battlewrights turns that simplicity into a chaotic playground of skill, timing, and good ol’ fashioned betrayal. And, let’s talk about throw-jumps. Imagine you’re mid-air, you throw your weapon, and the knockback blasts you in the opposite direction. Suddenly, your attack isn’t just a way to smack your friend off the stage, it’s a mobility tool, a last-second dodge, or the trick that saves you from falling into the abyss. It’s epic, it’s risky, and it’s the kind of thing that makes you jump out of your seat.
So what’s packed into the gameplay:
4-player couch multiplayer – perfect for game nights where bragging rights are on the line.
Online multiplayer through Steam Remote Play – because sometimes your rivals live across the country.
4 quirky characters in Battlewrights, each with 4 palettes (because style matters).
4 themed level sets, each loaded with interactive elements and power-ups.
40 handcrafted levels to brawl on.
Singleplayer time trial mode with another 40 levels for when your friends aren’t around.
Leaderboards to prove you’re the sharpest weapon-thrower in town.
Pixel-perfect art and a pumping chiptune soundtrack that’ll get in your head for days.
This isn’t just another indie party game. It’s an arena where friendships are tested, rivalries are forged, and your ability to think one step ahead can mean the difference between victory and humiliation. So, Steam Deck and Linux PC players, clear your December schedule. Battlewrights is about to revive the local couch party brawler spirit, sharpen your reflexes, and maybe even cost you a few Windows friendships (temporarily, of course). But hey, that’s all part of the fun on Steam. Are you ready to pick up your weapon, hurl it across the stage, and snatch glory from the hands of your so-called friends? Better start practicing your throw-jumps.
