💬 Rumor has it that you don't really hate Samantha. >:)

Simon hated how the accusation left him speechless. It should have been so easy to refute, so easy to say that it was blatantly untrue, and that whoever had suggested it obviously had no clue what they were talking about.
But if it was so easy, what was stopping him?
The truth was, he couldn’t out and out deny it. He was all too aware of the mixed feelings Samantha invoked in him, that it wasn’t as simple as it seemed. As simple as he wished it was.
But he couldn’t bring himself to say that, either.
“First off, who the hell told you that? Because somebody needs to mind their own business.” He finally managed to get over his shock enough to reply, eyebrows furrowing in frustration. “Secondly, let me make one thing clear. I haven’t forgiven Samantha for what she did to me, and I never will.”
There was a difference between not forgiving someone and downright hating them. Simon knew that, and knew it wasn’t really a rebuttal of the rumor as it had been given to him. Yet it was the only argument he had that he could give with any kind of confidence.
“Do you understand what she did? I was ten years old, and I trusted her. I thought she would protect me. But she left!” His voice cracked. Swallowing thickly, he looked down. “She left, and if it wasn’t for Grace, I would be dead. I couldn’t possibly forgive her for that.”
